  1. From last year's Other Minds Fest
  2. One difference is that Big Ears is a non-profit, so that's not as much of a goal. But I will always have concerns about the SXSW-ing of it. I went there for 10 years before it got completely out of hand and wasn't fun anymore.
  3. Huh - interesting. Who would they be having that needs such large venues?
  4. Yes, Harrison replaced Handy several years ago. Handy subs occasionally, though. Went to Ronnie Scott's last Wednesday. Fun show with Ronnie Scott’s Club Quintet [(James Pearson (p), Alex Garnett (as/ts), Freddie Gravita (tpt), Sam Burgess (b), Chris Higginbottom (d)]. Their theme for the night was ‘1959 …The Year That Shaped Jazz’. So they played tunes like So What and Blue Rondo A La Turk, as well as a few originals in the same style. Not familiar with any of the musicians, but the sax and piano player were standouts.

Tyshawn with electronic artist King Britt last October at the Other Minds Fest

    Tyshawn Sorey

Will keep an eye out for that. And definitely hope to catch at least one of his shows at Big Ears.
  7. Just a quick survey for other World music: Amadou & Miriam are from Africa. Ibeyi from Cuba.Tarta Relena, Spain. I'm sure there's more. As I just quickly clicked through the artists I'm not familiar with, it looks VERY promising! As usual, what I tend to find most interesting at BE is discovering musicians and musical styles I've never heard before. It's gonna be GOOD!
  8. At first I was a little disappointed in the lineup mainly because of so many returnees from last year. But the more I look at it, I'm not worried about seeing great music. I'm sure there will be lots of additions/changes in the next 6 months, too.
  9. Shawn is still in LA. You can find him on FB. I originally thought Signify was their best effort too, but have updated to "In Absentia" and "Arriving" for a live album (although "Anesthetize" is pretty excellent, too)
  10. Supergrass - Self-titled 3rd album
  11. Pretty excellent live album featuring a lot of early stuff
  12. Excellent! Thanks!
  13. Already Pre-Ordered! I never got that box set, but I still have an early double LP bootleg of that show. Haven't heard it in years, but I remember that the performance was really good.
  14. Looks like a "must-have"
  15. Excellent! Don't think I'll make that one, though.
  16. Just got this in the mail and looking forward to hearing it. It was recorded at last year's Other Minds Festival that I was able to go to. My "festival buddy" Nessa was there, too!
  17. Most of the Burner's Muse albums are great! Really a shame that they're all OOP, as is the label itself. It would be great to see someone buy up that catalog and rerelease a lot of that stuff, especially Earland's!
  18. That Grissom album is from 2011, but he has some sort of contract with PRS, so it could be an early one that he got directly from PRS himself. Other early 80s Brit bands that were good: The Primitives, The Chameleons UK and the Charlatans UK
  19. Unexpected rock/psychedelic tune from alt-country singer Price.
  20. I picked this up today since I was at that show (with Nessa, BTW!)
