  1. Phil Elwood was the regular jazz critic with the SF Chronicle and Examiner for many years. I would often see him at jazz (and some rock) shows.
  2. I sure wish someone would re-issue the entire Muse catalog. So much great music is sitting in someone's vault gathering dust, when it should be out in the market. Would probably do very well in the Vinyl Community, too.
  3. Not exactly related, but I always liked this box. It's basically made up of Orrin Keepnews favorite jazz tunes from his Riverside years. Each disk is arranged with a different theme.
  4. Same for me, too. I still use it a lot (even with all it's flaws), so it's worth it in order to avoid the ads.
  5. Big fan of Leventhal - both as a player and producer. His productions have a certain quiet edge to them that are always interesting. Especially with his wife, Rosanne and also Shawn Colvin and the album he did with Sarah Jarosz.
  6. Did Leventhal do anything from his new album? Saw Johnathan Blake on Sunday w/Dayna Stephens, Dezron Douglas, Jalen Baker and Fabian Almazan. It was one long suite he calls "My Life Matters". Good show - lots of interesting passages
  7. I never got that, but I did get the 2 disk collection that came out last year.
  8. Was never a big BB fan, especially the 'classic' 60s stuff, but saw them in 73 in Santa Barbara. I think that was their most interesting period.
  9. Saw that listing. Too bad I'm 3,000 miles away. I'll look for it!
  10. A lot of good music coming out on INTAKT these days.
  11. I've probably seen her more than anyone else over the last 5 years or so. Either with her own groups or with others like Zorn, Melford or Formanek. She's extremely prolific and seems to be everywhere. I like her but even if I'm not moved by a performance, she always seems to be trying something different. Will no doubt see her in at least one setting at Big Ears next month, too.
  12. A photo I took of Larry on the McLaughlin/Santana tour in 1973 in Santa Monica
  13. Cool. I was wondering about that. He seems like an interesting guy. And he has an enormous baseball memorabilia collection!
  14. I don't know Rush's albums very well, but I heard this and thought it was really good songwriting and performances
  15. 😁 I heard from a reliable source that he didn't 'pitch a fit' (I was wondering about that at the time, too). He had actually finished his set and made an inelegant exit. BTW, I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing multiple Threadgill shows this year. Big fan!
  16. BRAND new - this week. Only listened once or twice. It's nice, but a little more low key than I expected. I'm sure it will grow on me.
