This is an interesting oddity. Obviously looks like a vintage 60s surf album, but is actually this: "The band was composed of the members of The Heartbreakers, Tom Petty's backup band. During a short break from their work with Petty they recorded one album, Surf-N-Burn, which had the theme song "Goldfinger" from the James Bond film of the same name. Released by Epitaph Records, the album's liner notes include a faux history of The Blue Stingrays as if they were a legendary instrumental band founded in the late 1950s whose sole album was lost for decades due to the band members desire for anonymity. It was a reunion of sorts, with founding bassist Ron Blair playing with Heartbreakers members for the first time in 15 years, and Randall Marsh drumming, who was in a previous incarnation of the Heartbreakers called Mudcrutch. I haven the Freedom issue on vinyl and Black Lion on CD. Definitely a great album!

Nice to have all these albums! Once I got it I realized that the only one I had a physical copy of was Melting in the Dark. So ... win-WYNN!

Been to the Strand a LOT - when I lived in NYC in the 80s and when I visit. It would be sad to see it close. Their slogan is "18 Miles Of Books." Maybe if they downsized to "10 Miles" they could make it work!

Almost anything by Billy or with him is worth getting. I have a lot of those albums including Lodestar. I've never seen those other albums he recorded with Max. I first "discovered" Billy seeing him with Max at the Keystone Korner in the late 70s. Been a huge fan ever since. Try to see the Cookers whenever they're in the Bay Area.

Not bad considering they haven't recorded any new material in almost 20 years.
