  1. This is an interesting take on the classic early Cure album. It took me a couple of listens before I figured out what they added to the original, but it's grown on me. I think it's only available as a Bandcamp download, Worth checking out.
  2. Multi-instrumentalist Henry Threadgill works flute into a lot of his compositions
  3. Henry Threadgill - disks 4/5
  4. I've only seen her once (at the NYC Winter JazzFest last year), but I thought she was very good. She was presenting Allison Miller/Carmen Staaf ‘Science Fair’ w/Dayna Stephens, Jason Palmer & Matt Penman.
  5. I was only there a few times, but I liked the room and the sound was very good, too.
  6. I like some of it. Some of it doesn't hold up that well, but overall I appreciate the concept. I even bought the recent Steven Wilson 'complete' Dukes remaster set.
  7. Yes! That was a fun show. Jason is usually very entertaining, but that one was more than most. I haven't seen the Bandwagon in a long time either, and forgot how good they are.
  8. I picked this version up a long time ago, but never spent much time with it. I know the original album well, but need to go take a listen to the "Deluxe" stuff.
  9. How do you like it? I listened to it once and it didn't grab me, and I've been following her for years.
  10. Don't know about recordings, but I saw them in 73 at the Whiskey A Go Go, in Hollywood (of all places!)
  11. Although a collection of previously unreleased material, this holds together VERY well and is a solid addition to Dave's catalog
  12. I agree it's underrated, but as Mjazzg said it was a direction change from the Manchester dance vibe. Since that's what put them on the map I could see where fans would be disappointed. I never saw them, unfortunately. In a similar vein, I like the Charlatans UK a lot, too.
  13. I go that email, too. VERY skeptical about those May dates happening, but I'll keep an open mind. I think the fall is more realistic.
  14. The Jazz Gallery has had some interesting shows. I plan to watch Eric Harland tomorrow.
  15. I like that album better than their first one!
  16. Re: the Band of Gypsys box. I think it's a must-have for any Jimi fan. Many tracks have been released in various configurations over the years, the box is something else. It's eye-opening to hear the complete sets and how no song was played the same way twice over the course of the 4 sets. Other than these 4 shows there really isn't any other 'official' BoG on record. The Baggy's Rehearsal Sessions album is a fun listen, but it's literally a rehearsal and mostly jamming.
  17. I've seen him a LOT over the years - with Dexter, Woody, and more recently with the Cookers. A class act!
  18. Had this on pre-order since it was announced. Really looking forward to it. WAY back in the day I bought a bootleg of this show. One of those old generic white covers, but on transparent yellow vinyl.
  19. Haven't seen that album, but "understated" defines that band. Too bad their albums are difficult to find.
