  1. That could be good, but with Flora would be BETTER
  2. RIP, Chick I first saw him in 74 at the Troubador in LA with the first electric RTF (Bill Connors). Then 3 or 4 more times in the 70s. Didn't see him again until 2015 at SFJAZZ with Christian McBride and Brian Blade. Nice trio! Does anyone know if the original RTF (Flora, Airto, Clarke and Joe Farrell) ever performed live or toured? I've never seen a video or heard any live recordings. I would have loved to see that lineup. The ECM album is probably my favorite of all of his albums.
  3. Pretty sure I saw them with Ry in 1976
  4. Also available on Amazon Music
  5. Not familiar with Magos Herrera, but I saw Brooklyn Rider a couple of years ago at Big Ears. They were very good. I'm sure this is worth checking out.
  6. I saw Saturday's show. It was good. Unfortunately I can only watch it on my iPad, and this type of music can be a little difficult to engage with on a small screen. Glad I saw it, though.
  7. That should be a good Lockdown! I already have Tarbaby on my calendar.
  8. Maybe that's why I played this today. And I didn't even know it.
  9. This release list has a lot of nice stuff in it. I don't buy vinyl anymore, but for those looking there are a lot of gems. I have friends who buy lots of these and have recommended some of the less obvious but excellent sessions here, incl: Gerald Wilson, Donald Byrd (will they release Vol 2?), Andrew Hill, Blue Mitchell, Curtis Amy
  10. Caught part of that film tonight. Both Sammy and Frank Jr portrayed trumpeters. Interesting film and cast.
  11. I saw Immanuel Wilkins last month in a streaming show with Orrin Evans. He was very good. See him if you get a chance.
  12. Johnathan Blake last weekend from Smoke had Sullivan Fortner on piano instead of David Virelles. He was very good.
  13. Watched the Saturday show this afternoon. I enjoyed it. They worked well together.
  14. Title track is now available on Amazon Music
  15. Palberta "Palberta5000" - had a nice review in today's NYT.
  16. Naima was Trane's first wife
  17. Next weekend at Smoke (Chris Potter in two places at once): SMOKE SCREENS PRESENTS: THE JOHNATHAN BLAKE QUARTET FEATURING CHRIS POTTER, DAVID VIRELLES, & BEN STREET JANUARY 22 - JANUARY 23 / LIVE STREAMED / 8PM EST Buy Streaming Pass I noticed that about Chris Potter! One of these venues is NOT "Live".
  18. I planned to watch Thumbscrew but didn't catch either set. Fortunately I've seen them live a couple of times, and I'll see them again.
