  1. I agree it's underrated, but as Mjazzg said it was a direction change from the Manchester dance vibe. Since that's what put them on the map I could see where fans would be disappointed. I never saw them, unfortunately. In a similar vein, I like the Charlatans UK a lot, too.
  2. I go that email, too. VERY skeptical about those May dates happening, but I'll keep an open mind. I think the fall is more realistic.
  3. The Jazz Gallery has had some interesting shows. I plan to watch Eric Harland tomorrow.
  4. I like that album better than their first one!
  5. Re: the Band of Gypsys box. I think it's a must-have for any Jimi fan. Many tracks have been released in various configurations over the years, the box is something else. It's eye-opening to hear the complete sets and how no song was played the same way twice over the course of the 4 sets. Other than these 4 shows there really isn't any other 'official' BoG on record. The Baggy's Rehearsal Sessions album is a fun listen, but it's literally a rehearsal and mostly jamming.
  6. I've seen him a LOT over the years - with Dexter, Woody, and more recently with the Cookers. A class act!
  7. Had this on pre-order since it was announced. Really looking forward to it. WAY back in the day I bought a bootleg of this show. One of those old generic white covers, but on transparent yellow vinyl.
  8. Haven't seen that album, but "understated" defines that band. Too bad their albums are difficult to find.
  9. I missed this article. He must have found out after the 2018 Big Ears Festival. Glad I got to see him while he was still relatively healthy.
  10. Alllllllllllllll-Most!
  11. Game Theory, The Big Shot Chronicles
  12. This is an interesting oddity. Obviously looks like a vintage 60s surf album, but is actually this: "The band was composed of the members of The Heartbreakers, Tom Petty's backup band. During a short break from their work with Petty they recorded one album, Surf-N-Burn, which had the theme song "Goldfinger" from the James Bond film of the same name. Released by Epitaph Records, the album's liner notes include a faux history of The Blue Stingrays as if they were a legendary instrumental band founded in the late 1950s whose sole album was lost for decades due to the band members desire for anonymity. It was a reunion of sorts, with founding bassist Ron Blair playing with Heartbreakers members for the first time in 15 years, and Randall Marsh drumming, who was in a previous incarnation of the Heartbreakers called Mudcrutch. Band members: Mike Campbell, Ron Blair, Benmont Tench and Randall Marshall" [Discogs]
  13. I'd love to see ANY live music (and I don't mean on my iPad!)
  14. I always liked that album. Haven't heard it in a LONG time, though.
  15. I haven the Freedom issue on vinyl and Black Lion on CD. Definitely a great album!
