  1. I missed the Barron sets, but just saw Wilkins playing with Orrin Evans last weekend. Had other streamers to watch this weekend. VERY busy music-wise. I sure miss seeing live music in PERSON, though.
  2. Great picture! Very sad when I heard this. I never saw him, and he rarely came to the West Coast unfortunately.
  3. After watching Friday's great Dave Holland set, I decided to catch Saturday, too. Glad I did - it was excellent, as well! I wonder if this group (Jaleel Shaw, Steve Nelson, Obed Calvaire) will be recording together? They really seemed locked in. BTW, I saw Orrin Evans, too. A nice set. Smoke gives you 48 hours to watch a show.
  4. Just watched him with the Coanda Trio (Scotty Colley, Nasheet Waits) from Seeds in Brooklyn on Thursday. A typical Berne blowout session. He's always worth watching.
  5. Probably just one night for me. Orrin Evans is doing 2 nights at the same time from Smoke, so I'll probably catch that on Saturday.
  6. Looking forward to that Dave Holland show.
  7. This is an interesting take on the classic early Cure album. It took me a couple of listens before I figured out what they added to the original, but it's grown on me. I think it's only available as a Bandcamp download, Worth checking out.
  8. Multi-instrumentalist Henry Threadgill works flute into a lot of his compositions
  9. Henry Threadgill - disks 4/5
  10. I've only seen her once (at the NYC Winter JazzFest last year), but I thought she was very good. She was presenting Allison Miller/Carmen Staaf ‘Science Fair’ w/Dayna Stephens, Jason Palmer & Matt Penman.
  11. I was only there a few times, but I liked the room and the sound was very good, too.
  12. I like some of it. Some of it doesn't hold up that well, but overall I appreciate the concept. I even bought the recent Steven Wilson 'complete' Dukes remaster set.
  13. Yes! That was a fun show. Jason is usually very entertaining, but that one was more than most. I haven't seen the Bandwagon in a long time either, and forgot how good they are.
  14. I picked this version up a long time ago, but never spent much time with it. I know the original album well, but need to go take a listen to the "Deluxe" stuff.
  15. How do you like it? I listened to it once and it didn't grab me, and I've been following her for years.
  16. Don't know about recordings, but I saw them in 73 at the Whiskey A Go Go, in Hollywood (of all places!)
  17. Although a collection of previously unreleased material, this holds together VERY well and is a solid addition to Dave's catalog
