Daughter of tenor Ted Brown - fine writing, playing.

Well, I read somewhere that Lennie could play the accordion, and as "Blue Velvet" was recorded in Chicago there could be a connection. However he was most probably in New York at that time. Billy Bauer did mention Lennie liked to drive, but it's unlikely he would make it as far as Chicago in one piece. Still, one never knows ... he was remarkable in many ways. I agree the accordion on "Blue Velvet" is very nice - as is the piano.

Stan Kenton Johnny Richards Cuban Fire - Other Version
Quasimado replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Discography
There is/was this DVD at CD Japan by the Afro Cuban All Stars, but it doesn't seem to be related to the Johnny Richards version: https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/COBY-91266 Apparently "The Afro-Cuban All-Stars is a project led by Juan de Marcos González that features veteran singers" ... -
Clifford's solo on "Theme" is excellent - Tadd's is remarkable!

Fascinating - I'd never read Baldwin's "Sonny's Blues" before - 50s, heroin, jazz ... Followed up with the Gerald Early/ Ethan Iverson discussion. Many thanks

Thanks for that Larry and Mark - one of the great solos.

There is so much with the Kenton band that is superb, as Larry has mentioned; and then there is the great playing on the Storyvilles etc. The hard- heads around Tristano give/gave 1955 as the cut-off date. After that his playing started to change, gradually at first - by 1960 it is obvious. This is not to say that, with the right band, there were not flashes of the "old" Lee, but they gradually became fewer and fewer. Just what caused that is open to question ...

LF Los Angeles Jazz Institute (LAJI) CD
Quasimado replied to Stonewall15's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Vol. 17 sounds pretty interesting - great band! Any more information? I checked Jack Goodwins' Warne Marsh site but couldn't find anything ... also the LAJI site. -
Congratulations Phil - keep it going - we need you!

Experienced the same problem after downloading HTTPS everywhere for security purposes. This site is HTTP and the new installation caused that problem. As there were similar problems on a couple on other sites I uninstalled it and the problem went away. So much for added security
