This is a good one. Very well recorded, indeed the best recording of a Left Bank concert that I've heard. Sprited performances. Very enjoyable release.

With this and the earlier expanded reissue of Jazz in Silhouette (with Sound Sun Pleasure included), the '50s are now covered quite nicely. Can't wait for them to get to the early '60s material, that part of the discography has been such a mess!

There is going to be a documentary airing on PBS this Friday at 9pm titled Sun Ra: Do the Impossible, which is part of the American Music Masters series, which is the same series that aired the Max Roach documentary.

Unfortunately we just unplugged and turned in our cable box yesterday — before our move to Pittsburgh in two days (this Monday).

Will have to watch it on Passport in the next few weeks when I can (we’re PBS subscriber/supporters, NPR too).

An hour in and I think they've done a really good job on this; connecting his roots, music and philosophy in a cohesive presentation.

Just finished it.  Very enjoyable. Thoreau once said "in wildness is the preservation of the world" or something like that.  With Sun Ra: in weirdness is the preservation of the cosmos.  In a world that is pressing for sameness and homogeneity, this strangeness is salvation.

I really enjoyed it. The interviews and footage were top notch. Made me want to deep dive Sun Ra afterwards.  

 

Don't know if anyone else caught the King Records doc right after but the first 15 mins of that were great. Hopefully the PBS app allows streaming of these.

This doc is really, really good. I recorded this almost a week out and missed the King records doc afterwards.

Confirmed that the PBS app allows streaming of this documentary, along with the Max Roach American Masters doc. Watching the Roach now, and will probably rewatch the Sun Ra one later.
