That graphic is a detail from this work: https://www.wikiart.org/en/abdul-mati-klarwein/time-1965 It's interesting to see how many album covers used his work: https://www.wikiart.org/en/abdul-mati-klarwein/all-works#!#filterName:all-paintings-chronologically,resultType:masonry Thanks! clifford_thornton Posted October 20, 2023 Report Posted October 20, 2023 Huh. The Klarwein site says "1963" for Iron Man, which seems unlikely for a couple of reasons. One is that the original album cover was gold with a purple-tinted photo of Dolphy. Also, Douglas issued the music at least a couple of years after the reedist's death (1966 or so). The purple Klarwein cover didn't come out until sometime later in the 1970s. Quote
adh1907 Posted October 20, 2023 Report Posted October 20, 2023 Shelly Manne & His Men at the Black Hawk, Vol 1. Poinciana such a great live sound. Shelly’s drum solo, so good. Play loud. A rare chance here to crank it up on the stereo! Anthony London Quote

It looks pretty bizarre I'd be interested to know any records on this label that you think are real stand outs. I'm trying to cut down on my 'to listen' list but I'm always intrigued by good records by old timers. Quote

I have always loved the cover art. Showed it to my art teaching colleague that doesn’t know a lot about jazz: he said damn that’s a nice cover! the cover art reminds me of the Miles Davis double albums from the 70´s . But the music is fantastic. One of my favourite Jackie McLean albums and I am a big fan of him. Quote
