mellowT Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Jamal! I'm still amazed only one person has written a review on the Mosaic site. I marvel each time I work through the 9-CD set. Think I'm on round 5 now. Quote

Buys OOP Mosaics off of eBay for her loving husband. Wow. Currently enjoying one of my top five black box Mosaic favorites: My eBay acquisitions have to stay under the radar. Quote

jeffcrom Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 Disc three of the Ellington Capitol. The biggest surprise is a version of "In the Mood" that I actually like. Quote

jeffcrom Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Ellington Capitol, disc 5. This is a strange set. There's some brilliant stuff here, but also lots of pretty lousy tracks. Ellington and/or Capitol were trying hard for a hit record, with sometimes regrettable results ("Bunny Hop Mambo," for instance). I'm really glad to to have this set, but some tracks will seldom get played again. Quote

sidewinder Posted November 19, 2010 Report Posted November 19, 2010 (edited) bought it last Friday, got it on Wednesday and have played four of seven discs already - new record, for sure! Good stuff ! Art Hodes can wait another year, I guess. Same with the Commodores Vol 2 & 3 for me. Got to pace yourself with Mosaics. Edited November 19, 2010 by sidewinder Quote
king ubu Posted November 19, 2010 Report Posted November 19, 2010 Playing discs 5-7 of the Amos Milburn now - love it! Sure, I will most likely take it in small doses in the future (and I'll want to listen while reading up the sessions one day, too... just read the introductory essay so far). Quote

paul secor Posted November 25, 2010 Report Posted November 25, 2010 (edited) Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions - disc 2 - Nappy Lamare, Eddie Miller, Ray Bauduc, Marvin Ash I was a bit wary before I listened to these sides, but I found there was a fair amount to enjoy, even if I wouldn't classify any of it as classic.
