Fine in small doses , which in itself  it tricky to achieve given the length of some of the tracks. Too many medium tempo tracks and not enough high energy burners. Despite my reservations it’s a decent set but not one I’d grab if the house was on fire! Quote
Brad Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 I had this set but sold it because of the reservations Clunky expressed. Quote
paul secor Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 Clunky makes some good points, especially that it should be listened to in small doses. I've kept it because, given that restraint, there's a lot of very good music there, and because it features some musicians that I don't have elsewhere in my collection. Quote
ghost of miles Posted April 8, 2018 Report Posted April 8, 2018 I’ve listened only to disc 1 so far, and it was quite late at night, which ended up seeming like a perfect time for it. It does have the feel of a relaxed afterhours (or after-afterhours) get-together. I’ll probably listen to the other five discs in the same manner. I bought the set because I’ve been on a Buck Clayton jag of late and another board member was offering it at a very reasonable price... quite glad to have it. But I can see (or hear) how it might be a rather sleepy fit for others. A lot of beautiful playing, though, at least through disc 1. Quote

Misterioso Posted April 25, 2018 Report Posted April 25, 2018 Braxton Arista Recordings, continued. Even more enjoyable after I understood how to find the tracks in the accompanying notes (which are of great value to me). Quote
