Hardbopjazz Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Any earth shattering knowledge bestowed upon you since you been on this fourm? Quote
Joe G Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Mainly, that I didn't know as much about jazz as I thought I did! Quote
wesbed Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 I've learned how and when to purchase Mosaic boxes. Quote
LAL Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Enhanced my knowledge on jazz and music in general. Helped me not miss out on the Mosaic Vee Jays. Quote
ajf67 Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Great question and hard to quantify. I guess I am sort of constantly learning on here. What I really have enjoyed is just coming in here and finding things like the Lee Konitz interview that was posted earlier this week, and comments from all the folks who really have spent some time with jazz -- playing it, recording it, writing about it, or just listening to it like me (I've started keyboard lessons, but I'm waaay in the beginner category). It just expands my enjoyment of this music. Plus, I too have noticed a tendency to buy more Mosaics... Quote
Claude Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Since I visit jazz discussion boards (BNBB since 2001) I learned a lot about US politics and lifestyle, and a bit about jazz. For example the meaning of "TOCJ" and "OBI" Quote
catesta Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 I now know how top post pictures Same here. I think it's also improved my spelling skills and may have helped with my grammar. Well, maybe not all that much. On the jazz side, I've learned a lot. My ears have been opened to all kinds of wonderful music I otherwise would probably not have known about. B) Quote
Dan Gould Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 I started to learn this on the old JOL (wasn't around for Jazz Central Station's heyday), learned it more on Board Krypton, and really found it to be true here: Jazz fans are amazingly generous, decent people. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 That's very true Dan, I learned that on internet jazz communities as well! Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted June 3, 2004 Author Report Posted June 3, 2004 Also learned not to talk politics. You can get ruffed up in those threads. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 I've learned that there's more to jazz than hard bop, and contrary to what I thought, and Ken Burns still thinks, jazz didn't stop evolving in 1970... Quote
7/4 Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Organissimo is more fun than All About Jazz or Jazz Corner forums! Quote
tonym Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Not to bother reading every thread. Actually, the depth of knowledge around here is astounding. People here have the most interesting approaches to subjects, like 'hardbop' for example, which you thought previously had been covered comprehensively. Bring up almost anything on this board and I'm sure there'll be an expert. S & M? Any takers? Quote
catesta Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 S & M? are those them ogre-sized thingies? I think you're right. I crush 'em up and smear them on the tops of my flip flops, it keeps the cats away. Quote
tonym Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Peanut S & M.... hmm? Not for those with allergies to nuts. Quote
Dave James Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 I learned the he BNBB can go away and you barely feel it. I learned that while none of my friends would give two hoots about jazz, I have a lot of cyber-friends who do. Makes one's love of this music a little less lonely. I learned that there's a lot more to learn about about something I already thought I'd learned about. And I wholeheartedly agree that in spite of the differences we may all have from time to time, that jazz fans are a pretty decent group of folks. Up over and out. Quote
BERIGAN Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Peanut S & M.... hmm? Not for those with allergies to nuts. Perhaps not for the S's, but the M's on the other hand...(foot?) Quote
medjuck Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 I've learned that people can be extremely knowledgeable about more than one topic. I expected to find a lot of information about jazz here but the discussions of films, books and even (sometimes) politics are of a very high standard. Maybe jazz fans tend to be erudite folk. Quote
couw Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Maybe jazz fans tend to be erudite folk. that, and they drink a lot Quote
Alec Posted June 4, 2004 Report Posted June 4, 2004 I learned that on this board that "a jazz fan and his money are soon parted!" Quote
PHILLYQ Posted June 4, 2004 Report Posted June 4, 2004 I learned about Mosaics, a lot about jazz(and I've been listening for 30+ years!), about books, politics, where to get great discs at a great price(We have a great collection of bargain hunters here, and God bless 'em all!), about other kinds of music, about weird stuff on the web, and I could go on and on. The most important thing I've learned here is what a fine & generous group of people post here. Thanks to everyone- you folks are a great bunch! Quote
Tjazz Posted June 4, 2004 Report Posted June 4, 2004 I learned that on this board that "a jazz fan and his money are soon parted!" Quote
chris olivarez Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Mainly, that I didn't know as much about jazz as I thought I did! Same here. It's been a humbling experience and I look forward to a continual expanding of my knowledge. Thanks everyone!!!. Quote
