I saw them last year, too. Sadly they're not the same since Dallas passed away a couple years ago. I give them a ton of credit for carrying on, but there's definitely 'something' missing. Quote

I saw him some years ago on his last UK appearances, Bath I think but not sure. Even more memorable was another Bath appearance, solo that time, in the 80s in the Georgian splendour of the Assembly Rooms. Updated to say that the last appearance was 2010 in Bath, feels more recent than that. With his trio. Jason Bivins Posted June 10, 2024 Report Posted June 10, 2024 I always thought the Chameleons were really underrated. Quote
adh1907 Posted June 10, 2024 Report Posted June 10, 2024 A tenor player, Matt Cook, tonight in London NW5. Undoubtedly a talented chap but way too noodly for me, tempo unvaried, lost interest and left after the first set. Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted June 11, 2024 Report Posted June 11, 2024 Mary Glennon, one of my Facebook friends, posted that she went to see Renee Rosnes at the Village Vanguard last night and she said that the new management has re-done the audience seating area. Her comment was that the seating was "stacked in lines like chairs in a gym and there are no sight lines" & that the chairs are "stacked knee to knee to the chair next to you". She said it's worse than the Blue Note, which doesn't seem possible. Ugh. She also said that there was no table for your drink. Instead, you have to hold it in your hand the whole show (note - they have a two drink minimum). To add insult, they no longer have a waitstaff, so good luck getting that 2nd drink that you prepaid for up front. One of the things I loved about the Vanguard was the sight lines. It seemed like no matter where you sat, you could catch a glimpse of one of the band members up on stage. I had a friend who loved to sit along the side wall on one of the padded benches. He claimed that was where you got the best sound too. Quote

Very decent sound for huge footbal stadium. Several strings of classics (pre-'Born in the USA') across the concert, more than in previous gigs from the tour. The band was in excellent shape, and Springsteen's stage presence and charisma is still unsurpassed. His voice suffered in the second part of the concert but he gave it all, as usual (he even finished the concert by himself, his voice and guitar). 31 years have elapsed since I first attended a Bruce Springsteen concert (May 5, 1993, Vicente Calderón stadium, Madrid)... and singing out loud 'Thunder Road' or 'The River' still brings tears to my eyes! Thanks, I can hear it now, sounds great. Good to hear he's still playing some of the early tunes too. There's very little like a Springsteen live show. My last one was also a football stadium, Villa Park in Birmingham, 1988. Quote
kh1958 Posted June 17, 2024 Report Posted June 17, 2024 Saturday night, the Billy Harper Quintet at Steve's Wine Bar in Denton. Francesca Tanksley on piano, Freddie Hendrix on trumpet, Dezron Douglas on bass, and Aaron Scott on drums. A somewhat distracting place with subpar sound. Sunday night: Billy Harper Quintet at the Stateside Theater in Austin. Much better sound, and a nice venue. Great concert. They played in the first set: Priestess, Love on the Sudan (fantastic), and Soran-Bushi, B.H. There followed a question and answer session with Billy Harper and his group. Concluding with a short second set: Thoughts and Slow Actions (mostly an utterly gorgeous tenor and piano duet) and Insights. Glad I took the trouble to go to Austin, as the Sunday venue was vastly superior. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted June 19, 2024 Report Posted June 19, 2024 On Sunday, June 16th, I saw Arturo O'Farrill and the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra at Birdland. They played the entire Afro-Cuban Jazz Suite. Quote
