WD45 Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Do the negative numbers mean that you had them but sold them? Quote
Ron S Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I assumed the negatives were the number of CD's that you wouldn't own even if someone paid you to own them. Which is why I was surprised the possible responses only went up (or down) to 5. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Dude, I have ALL his CDs! They're AWESOME! And better than that, they're all signed by his drum machine!!! Quote
sidewinder Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Do my Kenny Graham and his Modernists 10" LPs count? Quote
Rosco Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Is this Kenny Garrett? Is there another Kenny G I'm unaware of? Quote

John Tapscott Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I actually have one for the very reason that you mentioned. Some in-laws, hearing that I was a "jazz fan," gave me one of his Christmas CD's for Christmas one year. Can't even remember the name of it. I don't let it near my jazz shelves but file it with my wife's Christmas music. To be perfectly honest, it's not terrible, and serves as decent background music for holiday entertaining. The arrangements are OK if a bit pedestrian. On one chart with a bit of rhythm, G "blows" a tenor solo, trying to give the impression that he's got jazz chops. But the solo is so obviously being "read", it's laughable. Quote
DTMX Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I have two: the one I use to scrape ice off of my windshield, and the one I use to scrape dogshit off of my shoe. The dogshit one sounds the same before or after. Quote
relyles Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I used to own Duotones on cassette. It was purchased while I was in college, before I became a true jazz snob. At the time that album was "hot" and it was enough to make a few ladies on campus think I was deeper than I really was. After I heard A Love Supreme the cassette no longer had any relevance for me and I eventually either gave it away or simply trashed it. Quote
brownie Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I use the empty Kenny G space to store more Duke and Miles Quote
Ron S Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 the empty Kenny G space That must give you infinite storage capacity. Quote
Free For All Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I guess this would be a good time to resurrect this old chestnut...... Kenny G Plays Monk...... Quote
DMP Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 You know, I might actually have him on an old Jeff Lorber CD. Kenny G - sideman! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 Pentatonic Fairy-Fucker, indeed. I'll just say none, it's better that way. Quote

Kenny G - sideman! ← I assume you've seen the jacket of his first 'breakout' solo LP (yes, vinyl), where he looks like a cross between members of Wham! and a young Steve Guttenberg. Red sweatsuit and all! Quote
Jazz Kat Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 "Blue Listeners" "Off Key" "Rhythm A No-Way" "Kenny-Goes Trinkle Tinkle" "Epitiful" "Round Pukin' Time" Just a few creative parody titles. Quote

And I agree, his first Christmas disc is pleasant enough and it does find its way onto the player during the holidays. Other than that, eh. Why are we even wasting space on the Organissimo server for this? Kevin Quote
Jazz Kat Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 Yeah, he sucks. HIs music blows. It's not jazz. It's boring. etc. but so are most smooth jazz artists, why don't ya pick on them 4 a change! :bwallace2: Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 We should somehow get him to join this board. We all pretend to love his music. Quote
