I have a xerox of the LP cover/liners, and I see that the error existed on the LP itself. Ironic also that Mandel was mentioned in the liners- but for a different reason. Sonny quoted his "Emily" on the track preceding "A Time For Love". Apparently Petula Clark/Tony Hatch/Vito Pallavicini composed a different tune titled "Time For Love". Rooster_Ties Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 (edited) What Mainstream titles have been released on CD?? Not very many, I know, but there are at the very least one or two, right? And what were the circumstances of their release? (What label reissued them? - or some other arrangement?) Who owns this catalog these days? Who owned/started it to begin with? How come the albums are all so short? (A couple here in the 40's, but most are in the mid-30's (or even low 30's), and there's actually one that's only like 28 minutes long!! Edited October 25, 2005 by Rooster_Ties Quote

Daniel A Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 When going through a pile of old LPs I've put away long ago because I didn't find them interesting, I found this oddity: The Delegates 'Convention "72"' (Mainstream MRL 100) Supposedly recorded in 1972. Produced by Nick Cenci & Nick Kousaleos for Nik-Nik Productions The LP is mono Side 1 1. Richard M. Nixon - Face the Issues (5:50) 2. L.B.J. Branch (1:35) 3. Ramsey Clark (1:06) 4. Convention '72 (5:06) Side 2 1. George McGovern (2:29) 2. Spiro Agnew (1:26) 3. The Godfather - Interview (7:07) 4. Sargent Shriver (2:31) 5. Sydney - Singing "My Way" (3:20) The track timing are from the labels. It's a comedy album - how it ended up on Mainstream I can't imagine - and tiresome as it is I couldn't bare sitting it through to check the track timings. I could do it if you're interested, of course. I'll try to do a cover scan - it's as tacky as the album itself. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 (edited) When going through a pile of old LPs I've put away long ago because I didn't find them interesting, I found this oddity: The Delegates 'Convention "72"' (Mainstream MRL 100) Indeed from '72. I have the 45, which was done in the style of Dickie Goodman singles: Reporter asks question, responded by a line from a current hit single. There were a number of soundtracks released on Mainstream in the 60s, many of which were "jazzy" to a certain degree. These include A Patch of Blue - Jerry Goldsmith Walk on the Wildside - Elmer Bernstein The 10th Victim - Piero Piccioni Some of these also showed up on sister labels AVA/Choreo, but I'm not sure how all of that ties in to Mainstream. Have you checked the discographies page of bsnpubs.com to see if they have a Mainstream discography? Edited October 8, 2006 by Teasing the Korean Quote

clifford_thornton Posted October 8, 2006 Report Posted October 8, 2006 For me, the most rewarding Mainstream titles have been the post-Time classical releases, like MEV/AMM, Sonic Arts Union, New Music from London (Birtwistle, Maxwell Davies, Orton, etc.). For a moment I didn't realize those later jazz releases were at all connected to the Time/Mainstream catalog of the '60s. Quote

And , to flesh out this thread , here are our earlier discussions : Earlier Discussion # 1 Earlier Discussion # 2 It's worth mentioning in this thread (as opposed to the other two just cited!) that two artists in particular recorded some interesting material for Mainstream that has been indifferenly reissued: Maynard Ferguson, most of whose Mainstream material was only briefly issued on cd, and Sarah Vaughan. Her Live in Tokyo set is well worth seeking out. Some Mainstream stuff came out via the Jazz Heritage series, but it would be nice to have the Vaughan material in particular. Quote
jazzman4133 Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 Many of the Mainstream covers were done by my friend and partner, Jack Lonshein. I'm going to post some of the original paintings that were used as covers. Quote
