Head Man Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 Sad news! Annoucement in Italy that Horo founder Aldo Sinesio died near Rome this week http://agrigentoweb.it/2013/07/04/roma-si-e-spento-aldo-sinesio_137314 Yes, sad news indeed. I guess that means we'll never get to hear those Horo albums reissued on CD. Or.........maybe it means we WILL. Yes, maybe it does. I wonder where the masters (are there any?) will end up? Quote
jeffcrom Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 Okay, I found this website tonight. Not sure what this means, if anything - it all seems pretty vague. But it's interesting, and promising. Quote
Head Man Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 Not much there I wouldn't buy if it became available on CD. ..... not holding my breath, though, Quote
romualdo Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 looks promising & "official" but appears to be vinyl only?? Quote
David Ayers Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 looks promising & "official" but appears to be vinyl only?? Hardcore. But this way you sell at premium price to collectors and give nothing to torrenters they couldn't get anyway. Quote
paul secor Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 If it happens,I hope that this time out the pressings are better - much better. Quote
Head Man Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 If it happens,I hope that this time out the pressings are better - much better. ... wouldn't be difficult That's why I'm sticking to CDs if and when this ever happens. Mind you, that's no guarantee if they're needle-drops! Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 Got an email response stating that they are original vinyl from the 70s...so old dead stock I presume. No word on prices yet.. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 (edited) The two Horos I most want on CD were/are the two Sun Ra quartet albums -- one of which did come out as a very nice quality CD boot (with really decent liner-notes, and high quality packaging), and the other of which I have on original vinyl (but which I'd love to have on CD). The vinyl I have is "Other Voices, Other Blues" -- and forgetting the other. Edited July 22, 2014 by Rooster_Ties Quote
colinmce Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 Hm indeed. I'm guessing they're still coming from Italy-- Not sure how I feel about trying to deal with that. I'm also guessing that all told these won't be a massive improvement on eBay prices in most cases... Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 Got an email response stating that they are original vinyl from the 70s...so old dead stock I presume. No word on prices yet.. they were doing discogs sales for a minute with just crazy high prices. I'd buy some of these if they were like $40 a pop. Quote
colinmce Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 This is an odd example, but I still think it's really low for labels to sell OOP items for inflated prices. Mosaic never does this. Eremite, for one, does. Quote

Eremite, for one, does. Yes, I e-mailed Eremite a while back asking whether they still had any copies of their Jemeel Moondoc CD, "Revolt of the Negro Lawn Jockeys" available and was offered one at a very inflated price. I ended up getting one through Discogs. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 yeah, I know that about Eremite. to be fair, some of those OOP titles do go for bread. Quote
BFrank Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 Unfortunately, I don't buy vinyl anymore. Hopefully CDs will come along eventually. . As usual, I would love to get a digital version of this: Max Roach - The Loadstar Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 If they charge anything higher then $30-40 for some of the single Lps I'm out. There's only a few I want and most of them are on the "jazz confronto" series such as the Enrico Rava and Steve Grossman. These all pop up on eBay from time to time and the advantage of that is hopefully the sellers can play grade and let you know of any cover problems. I imagine it's more of a crapshoot ordering dead stock direct from label...vinyl could be noisy or warped..covers could be unglued, etc. I've been lucky in that all my Horo titles save for Lacy's "eronel" have been fairly quiet pressings. mjazzg Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 (edited) I just got a reply to my enquiry asking me which titles I'd be interested in but no mention of prices. I've asked them back about price and pointed out potential issue of still sealed warpage - waiting to see what comes backBowie's 'African Children' and the Rava are my top two Edited July 22, 2014 by mjazzg Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 same here, was hoping for a price list. There are about five or six I'd buy if the prices are right. Depending on how they were stored they may or may not be warped. Quote

Gheorghe Posted July 23, 2014 Report Posted July 23, 2014 I still have the HORO Vinyl of Sun Ra "Unity" and the quartet album. I like Unity more. But it´s strange that Sun Ra plays only organ on that. Somehow I missed the Max Roach "Loadstar" when it came out. Quote
