(i had no idea Otis was only 26. Thats insane.)

Yep. Amazing how much he accomplished in that short time and how he changed music.

For a Detroiter, that's an amazing statement. Soul developed between Billy Ward & the Dominoes' "Have mercy baby" in 1952 (Clyde McPhatter lead) and The Falcons' "I found a love" in 1962 (Wilson Pickett lead, plus Eddie Floyd, Sir Mack Rice and one of the 4 Tops' brother - the backing band later became the Ohio Players). Nothing that Otis, O V Wright, Carr or Aretha did after that took Soul further into church than "I found a love". (Soul is the classic instance of the innovators not being as good as some of those who followed.)

MG

PS the other members of the Falcons were Joe Stubbs (Eli's brother) and Ben Night. And the band in those days was known as "The Ohio Untouchables")

Hell, I didn't even know Roy Buchanan was dead...

I seem to recall that he hung himself in a jail cell in an upper crust suburb of D.C.--Reston, Virginia.

"I Found A Love"... man, I love The Falcons. I literally listen to that song on a weekly basis. That vocal sure grabs my attention!

Remember this thread? I came across it, and decided to give it another go 'round.

I have outlived...

Lee J. Cobb and Floyd Cramer by 9 days

Gordon Waller by 31 days

Mickey Mantle by 142 days

Audrey Hepburn by 178 days

In 56 days, I will have outlived Thelonious Monk.

Most of us have outlived Jimmy Blanton and Charlie Christian. A lot of us have outlived Bird. In fact of the jazz musicians I most admire the only ones I haven't outlived are

Benny Carter, Ornette Coleman and Sonny Rollins. And of the the first generation of rock and rollers we still have Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis.

Well, I've outlived Stanley Kubrick, Orson Wells and Howard Hughes; coming up on Johnny Cash in 3 months, but passing Jackie Gleason in less than a fortnight (I'm holding my breath - oops poor strategy :D) and Floyd Patterson in three weeks.

So, how come Mr Cash appears in the high and medium fame lists? Did he pay twice?

I didn't go to this site but one person who it amazes me that I have lived longer than is Philip K. Dick. It also amazes me that he was a few years older than my father. Both were/are big intellects and big thinkers and so so different! I would have loved to have been able to have a few conversations with Philip.
