king ubu Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 The Bill Dixon set is now shipping. Yeah, and I bet yours will be there a week before mine again Not that I mind... still haven't dug into the Russell and Taylor sets yet. Felt like hardbop in the past weeks and that's been rare enough in the past years, so it's been mostly Horace Silver since Saturday! Quote
colinmce Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 Italy has one of the worst mailing services in the world. As an ebay seller, I just don't ship there because things get "lost." Hm, I wish I'd known that before I dropped $18 on a CD from Italy on Ebay a few weeks ago. Needless to say it hasn't shown up ... Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 26, 2010 Report Posted September 26, 2010 So far, have listened to the first three Russells, fantastic stuff Quote
JSngry Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 Where/who is a reliable retailer on these sets who also has a fair price? Not necessarily the best price, just a fair one. I'm put off by some of the stories about this Dusty's place and Italian postal service in general, but I really want that Dixon set... Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 Amazon France is pretty reliable. If the language puts you off, we can help translate. What I'd like to know is why after two batches of 4 sets each time, they elected to put out the Dixon set alone, are they still going to keep doing them. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 Jim, I'd also recommend amazon.fr . . . if you have an amazon account, it's a piece of cake to order. The cost is very reasonable even with shipping. Doesn't take that long to receive as well. Quote
brownie Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 One more recommendation for Amazon.fr. They really are excellent Quote
PHILLYQ Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 I ordered from Amazon.fr, no problem at all. Quote
Niko Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 What I'd like to know is why after two batches of 4 sets each time, they elected to put out the Dixon set alone, are they still going to keep doing them. to me it looked like they tried to add the Dixon to the second batch after his death? at least that's what i'm, hoping... Quote
king ubu Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 Oct 5 also marks his 85th birthday... I hope to get it around that time - the set's been on its way for a few days now, but the recent ones took long to arrive. Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 (edited) Did a search on Amazon UK which is as as good as Amazon France is now selling the sets at a very good price, just a small glitch, they mention being out of stock for the Dixon at this moment. JETman Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Just noticed that the excellent duet album "Flux and Change" is included on both the Pieranunzi and Motian boxed sets. Why Cam would do this is anybody's guess! Quote
king ubu Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Don't find it so excellent, fine, but nothing more... but I got to spend more time with both the Pieranunzi and the Motian sets. I don't mind the duplications - these sets are out for such attractive prices, I really am not bothered! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Never had a problem from multiple sources. Quote
king ubu Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Ah well, my Lester Bowie didn't even make the few kilometres from France to here undamaged. But then wiht just three discs in there, the box is half emplty and damaged much easier than all the others. Quote
PHILLYQ Posted October 1, 2010 Report Posted October 1, 2010 Question for US customers ordering Black Saint/Soul Note sets from foreign destinations.......Most important.....do the sets arrive undamaged? I don't want any beat up dinged. dented box sets.......that's my major concern..... I ordered from Amazon.fr and the boxes(Bowie & Taylor) arrived in perfect shape, no problems at all. Quote
brownie Posted October 1, 2010 Report Posted October 1, 2010 Just noticed that the excellent duet album "Flux and Change" is included on both the Pieranunzi and Motian boxed sets. Why Cam would do this is anybody's guess! The back cover of the Paul Motian box says 'Flux and Change' star Paul Bley and Paul Motian! The disc liner notes correct this and indicate the players are Pieranunzi and Motian! Quote
king ubu Posted October 1, 2010 Report Posted October 1, 2010 Ah well, my Lester Bowie didn't even make the few kilometres from France to here undamaged. But then wiht just three discs in there, the box is half emplty and damaged much easier than all the others. You mean they don't tailor make each box in accordance with the amount of CDS that's in it......I'm ordering the George Russell set with 9 CDS so it might not be a problem.....they must be making 9 cd boxes for everything. Yes and no... the Threadgill with 7 discs won't close that well, but it seems they learned and made the Russell for 9 discs a bit fatter. The Bowie with 3 discs was standard size (same as the other sets with 5 or 6 or 7 discs). Quote
Hoppy T. Frog Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 Is anybody domestic (USA) going to be carrying this? The last bunch came through JazzLoft. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 My Dixon set arrived yesterday, another fine box set. Quote
Van Basten II Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 The Dixon on Amazon UK is now shipping Quote
king ubu Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 And Lon - of course! - got his copy earlier than me again Quote
king ubu Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Got mine today - just two days later than Lon, that's an improval compared to the last batch of these boxes! Into the third album now Quote
cliffpeterson Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 If you live in the us,ordering from amazon.uk rather than harmonia will cost you less. the amazon prices in the uk have a vat price built into. When you go through the ordering process you can see that the price is reduced once you plugged in your u.s. shipping address. Quote
