Peter Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Squidco has the George Russell for $39.95. Quote
B. Goren. Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 just a bunch of pictures... Niko, please be kind enough to give me a link. It seems that I'm not talented enough to find it by myself. Quote
king ubu Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 No link yet... the covers aren't officially displayed on the site yet, either. The pics were there in advance for the previous boxes, too... once you've figured out the URLs, you can just enter the next numbers (13 boxes out so far, so #14 is next). For those who care, larger images: http://www.camjazz.com/site/imgs/BXS1014b.jpg http://www.camjazz.com/site/imgs/BXS1015b.jpg http://www.camjazz.com/site/imgs/BXS1016b.jpg http://www.camjazz.com/site/imgs/BXS1017b.jpg Quote

Niko Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 (edited) as ubu says, no pages so far, here is the link to the first release which isn't in there yet (so possibly the link to the next boxed set - or the next release otherwise) http://www.camjazz.com/site/index.php?site=&path=cd&idcd=1722 (and then 1723, 1724...) greggery peccary Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 Squidco has the George Russell for $39.95. They all seem to be selling in the $30s on Amazon. I know I paid more for the ones that I have. Note to self.....wait next time (you can do it).....save some money. Quote
greggery peccary Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 Import CDs has a bunch of sets, Threadgill, Dixon, Rava, Motian priced in the mid 20s right now, including the Russell. Black Saint Soul Note Boxes Quote
aurelio Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 Any dates on the new CAM Jazz box set releases? Can’t find any information at the web-site. Quote
kh1958 Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 I have become seriously addicted to this series--so far I've listened to the sets of Charlie Haden, David Murray, Lester Bowie, and Henry Threadgill, with Enrico Rava and George Russell in the queue. Next orders will probably be Steve Lacy and Lee Konitz. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 Such a great series! I've bought every set and listened to each at least twice all the way through and I'm not at all done with them. I think I like the Dixon, Threadgill and the Russell the most, but all are worth hearing. Quote
BeBop Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 Jazz Loft has a sale on these items now. While the reductions from list/regular price are substantial, they're just a few cents below Amazon price (with free shipping), based on my quick perusal. But hey, some of us like Jazz Loft over Amazon. Quote

Rosco Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) First: Hi to everyone, because this is my firs post, although I have been read the forum since a long time. Speaking about Black Saint / Soul Note box sets, I have all of them, and the last that I purchased was DAVID MURRAY, because I had 3 of 5 CD's included yet. Anyway, I have a little doubt: I think that the remastered work has a little fault in the "New Life" CD. If you listen to "Blues In The Pocket", you will listen to Craig Harris' trombone solo (from 5 minutes to the end) at an extremely low volume in the mix, while the other instruments are balanced. Has anyone more noticed this? If this is true in every copy from that CD, it will be the first "bad" remaster from these boxes, because the others have a very improved sound. Greets! Was just about to post much the same thing. Listening on headphones it also become apparent that the New Life disc is in mono. It almost seems like we're hearing one channel from a stereo mix and Harris' trombone was mixed to either extreme left or right. Does anyone have the original LP or an earlier CD version to check this? *edit* Just done a quick scan of the other discs, a couple of which I haven't got round to hearing yet. Sounds like Hope Scope and Ming are also in mono. I have Ming from an earlier CD issue and a side by side comparison seems to suggest the right channel instruments are lower in the mix. There's something not right here... Edited January 5, 2012 by Rosco Quote
aurelio Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 Looks like the Mal Waldron has a release date of 1/9/2012 at www.grooves-inc.com http://www.grooves-inc.com/waldron-mal-complete-black-saint-soul-cam-jazz-cd-album-pZZa1-1897012781.html Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 I am amazed so few of you had the lps or cd reissues. Major bummer for me. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 Personally, I had some of these titles, about 15 percent. I appreciate this music more now than ever. I had to grow into some of it. We don't all have the number of decades in that you do. Quote
kh1958 Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 I have a respectable number of Black Saint/Soul Note LPs and CDs, purchased over the last 30 years or so. The catalog is rather large though, and they have never been that easy or inexpensive to obtain. These discount priced box sets are very welcome. Quote

king ubu Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 I am amazed so few of you had the lps or cd reissues. Major bummer for me. I'd have bought way more, had they seen wider distribution (or been available at all)... but as others say, not all of us go as far back In my younger days, I was busy collecting Coltrane, Miles, OJCCDs, Mosaics... and you know, these Black Saints - when they did show up behind the mountains here, they would cost at least 30 or even 35 dollars, so go figure... Anyway, I'm definitely a fan of these new boxes, got them all, yet I still have to absorb some of the music... Quote
David Ayers Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 I have or had maaaaany of the BN/SN titles. I often wondered if these were as widely known as they might be. The enthusiasm for these boxes seems to show they are getting a new audience. They were never especially expensive in the UK, and when CD came in there was a window that their LPs were flogged off cheap. With the CDs too there was a period that many were available at mid-price (when many titles were not so current and before these boxes started to come out). Quote
Guy Berger Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 I've only purchased a few of these sets, but love 'em. They're being released faster than I can buy them. Quote
