This 1990 release is among my favourites, for the intriguing multi-layered firrst half (or LP side one.):

First I was more than puzzled when I saw a thread "Hutch RIP" since I thought I remember he died many years ago.

I love Hutcherson very very much and of course have many of his and saw him live of course.

This album I didn´t get, Amazon said its OOP when I wanted to buy it.

But it seemed to have on it some members I saw with Hutch in that conception (maybe Herbie Lewis ? ) among others.

I saw live an incredible Allstar quartet with McLean, Hutch, Herbie Lewis and Billy Higgins !!!!!!!!! What a shame they didn´t make an album, it would have been one of the greatests, since the concert was one of the greatests I ever saw....., I still have the music in my head how it was played....

Someone posted that they were listening to the SF Jazz Collective recording from 2005 that had Bobby playing on it and for some reason, I googled Bobby just to refresh my memory of this era of his playing. I tripped over an interesting discussion on reddit:

The interesting quote from his daughter was that "The song "Ummh" paid for his house in Montara. I live in his house to this day, raising my kids Ruby and my son Bobby".

I did not know that Hutcherson's "Ummh" was some sort of moneymaker for him. Does anyone know how this one tune made him enough money to buy a house? Was it some sort of jukebox hit that I never knew about?

I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but it was a pretty incredible night when I got to see Hutcherson, McLean, Hill, Higgins & Scott Colley at Aaron Davis Hall in 2000.

Great photo. So interesting that Hutcherson never wore a suit in the 60's-70's but wore a suit/tux in the 80's thereafter; e.g.,

What an incredible career, an incredible muscian.

I saw him a number of times in the 70s at the Keystone Korner. Needless to say, he was a regular as both a leader and band member.

Then I started seeing him again at SFJAZZ over the past 20 years or so. Again as a leader and with other artists. He was also a founding member of the SFJAZZ Collective.

His final few years were sad because he had to use oxygen to overcome difficulties with emphysema. But he still continued to play for a while and never let that handicap slow him down.
