Bol Posted May 5, 2017 Report Posted May 5, 2017 Just heard from Scott Wenzel at Mosaic. Apparently, the Savoy set will be reprinted later this month. So if any of you are interested in this, you should put in an order with Mosaic rather than searching for it at other places. Quote

I wonder if the concerted effort over the last couple of days has thrown them a lifeline? *fingers crossed* I'd love to know what their sales numbers look like post-email/social media blitz. Quote
JSngry Posted May 5, 2017 Author Report Posted May 5, 2017 Any indication of what else might be reprinted for one more (last?) go 'round? Quote

Whether that one will ship or not, we'll just have to see. As another poster wrote, if I get it, great, if not.... But I'm an unqualified Mosaic fan. I *really* don't want to see the label go. gregmo I don't think you're alone. I also ordered the Clifford Jordan set. Still on the fence re:Threadgill. Have a couple of his Novus cds, might listen to them. It's been years. Quote

erwbol Posted May 5, 2017 Report Posted May 5, 2017 (edited) Very glad I got the Woody Shaw Muse set from Jazz Messengers as soon as the news broke. Excellent set, at least the first five discs. The penultimate session recorded by Rudy Van Gelder sounds especially thin. But the pre-Columbia albums are all great music. No complaints. I have come to the conclusion that Ahmad Jamal is not my thing. And the Benedetti set, well, I don't think I listen to Bird often enough to justify spending €125 on it. erwbol Posted May 5, 2017 Report Posted May 5, 2017 Yes, and they have free worldwide shipping. Quote
2scoops Posted May 5, 2017 Report Posted May 5, 2017 Free worldwide shipping provided the order is over 60 euros, just to clarify. Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted May 5, 2017 Report Posted May 5, 2017 So I see the MJQ box is backordered, but says it is expected to be available again in May (presumably 2017). Given the current situation, is it touch and go (at best, and probably extremely iffy), or is there any chance it could become available again? (In other words, am I just SOL on that one?) Quote
JSngry Posted May 5, 2017 Author Report Posted May 5, 2017 Spend that money, and consider it spent until you know for sure that it;s not. And then, hey, found moeny! Quote

WarpedOrb Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 (edited) Have any folks from North America ordered from Jazzmessengers? I'm considering ordering the Armstrong All-stars vinyl box from them, but I'm hesitant. The registration page is unsecure and I also worry about how they package things - even Mosaic doesn't box my vinyl orders as well as they should sometimes. In short, can I trust them? I'm surprised I can get it from them for the same price as from Mosaic seeing as it's been OOP for a day now. Thanks for any comments on this. Edited May 6, 2017 by WarpedOrb Quote
medjuck Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 I bought something from them (can't remember what). It went fine. Used Paypal so no security problem. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 They are a very good company to do business with. I find they will answer emails in English which is great because my Spanish isn't. I had a package go astray (not their fault) and get returned to them and they were on top of that and got a replacement to me right away. I would not hesitate to order from them, I've done it three or four times over the last few years, nothing but good service. Quote
WarpedOrb Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 OK, thanks for the quick replies guys. I better get on that; been wanting that for awhile if anything was meant for analogue it's Pops' trumpet. Now I just need to buy a record player. Quote
felser Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 I have had 3-4 largish ($60-90) orders with Jazzmessengers over the past few years, and all have gone flawlessly. Only annoyance is that you have to sign for your package, which can mean a trip to the post office and several day delay if you don't have anyone to receive the package. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 Jazz Messengers has always been great. Well packaged and the last few have been sent to me from Spain via FedEx so I received them quickly. I have never had to return anything. I Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 (edited) Well, if the MJQ set is back in play (and it appears it is!), then I'm contemplating getting all four of these (gulp)... Bee Hive, MJQ, Oliver Nelson, and Threadgill. But I'm not sure I'll convince myself to get all four, and I certainly don't "need" all of them. Heck of a chunk of change (~$540 with shipping), and will I really listen to all of them enough? Decisions, decisions. Edited May 6, 2017 by Rooster_Ties Quote
