Zev also turns me off, but I bought that 3-CD Resonance set and it's good. Dunno about this new release. Quote

T.D. Posted October 15 Report Posted October 15 Sorry, my bad. I got threads confused with the recent RRK (which isn't even Zev) and mistakenly thought there was a forthcoming Dolphy release. 🤪 Quote
Niko Posted October 15 Report Posted October 15 No worries, even though I am in the mood for a new Dolphy release... Quote

I think this is one I liked but it’s probably been 30+ years since I listened to it. Grew up in the 70's and was very much into Bob James, Grover Washington Jr, Spyro Gyra, and Chuck Mangione. 60's Bob James? Wow. These are the only Bob James I kept. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 There are other threads that go into a number of folks’ issues with him, most of which center on hyperbole and quality control. I don't really feel like going into all of it here, but a search should reveal it all. Quote

Also, and this is just personal taste, many of his announcements, press releases, etc. display an overweening ego which irritates me and seems inconsistent with the QC issues. Quote
JSngry Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 Or...the outsize ego is directly connected to the QC issues? Palo Alto. Quote
Pim Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 Shouldn’t there be a separate thread where people could bash Zev Feldman? This way other threads stay on topic. Quote
Holy Ghost Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 Thinking out loud, there's been many topics on those who engineer, produce, design, etc., all kinds of sessions. I say start a topic on Zev Feldman. We have topics on Ron McMaster v RVG, Creed Taylor v Bob Thiele, Reid Miles v Patrick Roques, Richard Bock, Michael Cuscana, Bob Weinstock, Teo Macero, Orin Keepnews, and onwards. Some like these individuals, some don't. Create a Zev Feldman thread and see where it goes. My suggestion. Quote
Niko Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 The outsized ego might or might not deserve a separate thread but the QC issues like Denis Charles last year or the uncredited tenor player the year before are still best discussed in connection with the releases to which they belong... Quote

It’s mostly about other releases than the threads about plus: the Palo Alto and Stitt disasters have been mentioned and discussed a zillion times by now. Haven’t we reached the point where we could move on and talk about other stuff? Just my observations but hey if people want to sum up all his stupidities once again go ahead. I’ll grab my Zev Feldman is an idiot bingo card or read the other threads. Talking about other threads: anyone who feels like sharing how he dislikes Oscar Petersons playing? I have a a bingo card for that too Edited October 18 by Pim Quote

I have a a bingo card for that too I thought we had a good discussion about Huss Charles last year... And I also liked the detective work around the second tenor player or about what went wrong with the licencing of Palo Alto... Those discussions were not off topic when they happened... And I do think that these problems happen a bit too often to this particular producer - then again, he's quite productive ... Be all that as it may, what I wanted to say is this: a dedicated thread for negativity about Zev Feldman would not solve any problems, it might even create new ones. Quote
