BFrank Posted May 28 Posted May 28 2 disk set. Listened to the first one today. Definitely a reimagining of Max's album. Very intense. Members… Don’t! is the tour-de-force new release by acclaimed drummer and composer Tyshawn Sorey that offers a bold reinterpretation of Max Roach’s potent album Members, Don’t Git Weary, connecting its message of resilience in the face of struggle to the present day. It follows on a string of albums from Sorey that feature pianist Aaron Diehl, the latest of which – The Susceptible Now (Pi 2024) – received 5-Stars from Downbeat, which describe it as “a garden of sonic ecstasy… Sorey’s trio conjures a spell that enchants throughout the entire album…. Each [track] seduces with the power of sauntering dance, flickering melodicism and emotional immediacy.” Quote

Holy Ghost Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Decided to stop by the Record Den (the only indie store in town) and bought these titles/box sets: The 2025 reissue of this box set. Thought I'd be fine with the sampler, but this was sitting at the front counter, and I bought it. Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted June 3 Posted June 3 Latest discogs order... Craig Handy - three for all + one (Arabesque) I'd never heard of this CD so I took a chance. Handy still comes around the Boston area quite often, so I am very aware of his playing. This CD came with a HUGE sticker on the case from Record-Rama in Pittsburgh. It was a bitch to remove the thing. John Abercrombie - Night (ECM). I put this on my want list a little over a year ago and this is the first reasonably-price copy I've found since. I bought it mainly on the good review in the All Music Guide. I hope they were right. It has Michael Brecker, so that alone could be good or bad depending on how he was playing that day. Kind of a bummer that Handy's rhythm section for this trio CD, Charles Fambrough & Ralph Peterson, have both passed away. I do miss Ralph a lot as he was a staple around here for many years. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted June 5 Posted June 5 (edited) I found this LP this morning. Edited June 5 by Ken Dryden Quote
Niko Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Got that Dolo Coker LP earlier this year and would have played it today (after reading the Edison interview in World of Count Basie), it's a good one Quote
Pim Posted June 13 Posted June 13 (edited) I was in Utrecht for a conference on eduction, had some time off went into Vinyl24 and there I saw this baby with a 25% discount. 50 euros is a steal for all this greatness. Vinyl = NM only pretty dirty so I”ll give them a bath first. Plus I’ve sold my Prophetic LP for 20 euros. Very happy to add this to my collection. Edited June 13 by Pim Quote
Niko Posted June 14 Posted June 14 It's a great shop, you never know what you find, but most of the stock is priced to go and condition is rarely an issue... Got the Bechet Mosaic there a few weeks back... Quote
Niko Posted July 13 Posted July 13 the Cook and Raney albums also went through my hand last week... but I didn't buy them... instead, the past weekend brought: Jimmy Grissom - World of Trouble Tony Scott - Music after Midnight Quote

I've been really intrigued by this. Recently trekked out to Princeton Record Exchange a few weeks ago and among a few others picked up this Mosaic Select Edited July 19 by Templejazz Quote
