Agreed, this is absurd.  His post-1980 output has had very spotty quality IMO, and these are outtakes!

I could not care less about this but the way these sessions are being described, they aren't really outtakes, but cohesive performances that he chose not to issue at the time.

I can't be made to care but at the age of his fans, they probably have enough cash flow to buy enough of these to make it worthwhile.

I'm initially only interested in the first album, L.A. Garage Sessions 1983. I wish that had been part of a Born In The USA deluxe set similar to what Sony did with Darkness on the Edge of Town and The River, but starting to think the ship has sailed on a BITUSA box ever coming out. Can't imagine even with the ever-prolific Boss that there's much left in the vaults from the BITUSA era at this point. I saw Springsteen in Columbus, Ohio in April 2024, and it was an amazing show--clocked in at over three hours, and both Springsteen and the E Street Band were on fire. Great version of "Racing in the Streets" from that concert:

Agreed on the BITUSA box likely not happening.  It's been a decade since the River box.  I don't hold BITUSA with nearly the same regard as the earlier albums, but it was HUGE, so I'm surprised the box never happened.

Although I'm proud of the position Bruce is planting himself in public at this time, he's never been an interest of mine. This is an intriguing, attractive set I bet for true fans, previously unreleased albums that were all sewn up and ready to go--I can think of a few artists I would really like to see something like that from and would probably pony up the high cost (I hardly spend my money on anything else, don't drink, go out much at all, etc.)

Although I’ve never had much of any interest in Springsteen’s music, I have always had a decent amount of respect for him.  Can’t say I’ve heard more than a handful or two of his tunes over the years (just whatever I heard on the radio in high school mosty, in the mid 80’s) — and I literally don’t know that I’ve heard more than a few songs of his since then (in close to 40 years).

He’s always seemed like the real deal to me, but his is a style of music I’ve just never cottoned to much.

I’ve never specifically disliked what I’ve heard — and I’ve never changed the channel when he was on Letterman, or The Tonight Show, etc.  But he just never turns up anywhere in most of the music media I consume.

This is me as well. But I’m sure there are people who are excited to see this come out and I personally love bloated deluxe releases. As someone who owns all the Prince super deluxe releases, I like seeing these releases do well in hopes they keep coming.

I have the Prince Sign o' the Times super-deluxe box and love it. Missed out on the 1999 set, though. Did they do one for Purple Rain, or is the "Expanded" 3-CD set the most expansive reissue out there? But yeah, such collections are great for hyperfans. I have all of Rhino's superlative Replacements box-sets, plus deluxe reissues of the Pretenders' first two albums, Love's Forever Changes, and Lou Reed's New York, in addition to the two Springsteen boxes mentioned above. (Though I won't be picking up this Tracks 2 collection--my interest in his catalogue is devoted almost entirely to the 1973-87 period.) And while I know there's controversy about Giles Martin's remasterings, I've also really enjoyed the Beatles albums that have gotten the super-deluxe treatment over the past decade (Revolver, Sgt Pepper, The White Album, Abbey Road, and Let It Be). Recently I've had the gigantic Smile box set out for a spin in the wake of Brian Wilson's death. All great stuff for those who like deep dives into particular artists and albums for which they retain an abiding passion.

I actually really like Springsteen's music but as much as I like to support the guy, the pre-order pricing for this box is nuts. As I said, when the price on the used market gets to around $50, I'm in. Until then, no way.

They didn’t do Purple Rain for some reason. The last one was Diamonds and Pearls. I agree the SOTT is awesome. I have two of the 1999 sets because one had two “vault 2 tracks” CDs and is missing “vault 1 tracks”. If you’re interested let me know.
