Dan Gould Posted Tuesday at 07:32 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 07:32 PM Third or fourth or maybe even fifth favorite Silver front line but I am sure I am in on this. Quote
JSngry Posted Tuesday at 07:41 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 07:41 PM When will the CD be available for pre-order? Quote

It's also available for pre-order... for $19.98 for a single CD! In this day and age, putting a $20 price tag on a CD is ridiculous. Next they'll complain that no one is buying CDs anymore. Quote
Peter Friedman Posted Tuesday at 07:56 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 07:56 PM It is always a large treat to have more recordings by Horace Silver issued. Quote

Yeah, that's just silly. I am hoping that Amazon will get it for less than that. But right now they're only taking orders for download/streaming. Quote
felser Posted Tuesday at 08:22 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 08:22 PM DeepDiscount and ImportCDs will likely be substantially cheaper. Quote
colinmce Posted Tuesday at 09:11 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 09:11 PM Wouldn't necessarily count on that. The Joe Henderson CD was similarly overpriced no matter where you looked. Hard not to feel like this is related to them having such success getting people to shell out for the Tone Poet LPs. Quote
Pim Posted yesterday at 05:10 AM Report Posted yesterday at 05:10 AM I’m not the biggest Silver fan and realize this makes me an exception but the personell and song selections got me interested. Quote
JSngry Posted yesterday at 11:54 AM Report Posted yesterday at 11:54 AM It should be a nice supplement to the Emerald records. Quote

jazzbo Posted 22 hours ago Report Posted 22 hours ago (edited) Amazon has it up now for 19.98 and as I had Prime it's my best bet--I pre-ordered. Edited 22 hours ago by jazzbo Quote

JSngry Posted 16 hours ago Report Posted 16 hours ago Thank you! Not sure why nothing took me to that page, just to the Amazon Music page. Quote
BFrank Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago Great front line. Will definitely stream it, and if it's as good as it appears to be will probably by the CD, too. Quote
Steve Gray Posted 6 hours ago Author Report Posted 6 hours ago I have long wondered what is so awful about the 1964 Live At Pep's session that it was rejected. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago 3 hours ago, Steve Gray said: I have long wondered what is so awful about the 1964 Live At Pep's session that it was rejected. Supposedly Carmell Jones was heckled before (during?) the show and his playing was adversely affected. Michael Cuscuna gave the masters to Horace so there is a chance that they're out there somewhere. If someone knows Horace's son Gregory, maybe he has them... although I did read somewhere that Gregory may have also passed. Quote

Stefan Wood Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago Wow, what a line up! I will order this as well, probably on vinyl. Will wait for the initial fervor to die down and then prices will drop. Quote
Eric Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Wow - the clip sounds great. I love the cover, may drive me to the LP. The Penthouse is Seattle seems to be a fairly deep well. Quote
Mark Stryker Posted 15 minutes ago Report Posted 15 minutes ago (edited) FWIW, this material is very good, but, honestly, it's nowhere close to the intensity and creativity of the same band captured six months later at the Half Note, 2/18/66, playing four songs from he Cape Verdean Blues. A tape of this (from an Alan Grant radio broadcast) has circulated for some 40 years, which is how I first heard it. They were issued on an unautyorized CD, Horace Silver Featuring Woody Show -- Live at the Half Note. on the Hi-Hat label, and I think one tune ended up on the Emerald release. I'm glad Blue Note is putting out what they are, but it's a missed opportunity to not have found a way to include the 1966 Half Note broadcast, which has some of the best Woody and Joe that I know.
