  5. Dave Holland Trio in Athens, April 25 2024. Eric Harland, Jaleel Shaw, Dave Holland. The end of their one month tour. An amazing set.
  6. Today
  7. Good stuff. This Lester and Lee stuff is also on Masters of Jazz (Media 7) Lester Young Vol. 2 (1939-1942) which is surprisingly cheaper to get than I would have thought.
  8. "Loki" was quite good, and "Legion" and "Doom Patrol" (not Marvel) are among my favorite TV shows ever. I stopped watching Marvel Movies though around the second Avengers. Just not my style.
  9. I think I must listen once to that original album of the tune. My discography of early Mingus is very scarce, I must admit. During my record buying years the "Pithecanthzropus Erectus" was a 1970 recorded album for the French America Label, and it was about the newest Mingus out than. Anyway strange, Until Mingus got his contract at Atlantic, all my Mingus albums was those "America" LP´s. Then of cours each year the new Atlantic album.
  10. Sure I remember him ! Before I got acquainted to jazz, I listened to stuff like Ö3 Hitparade or DiscÖ3, that was kid´s music than. we all listened to such stuff, but it all changed after I heard Miles an Mingus

  14. Did you know that Erin Ellwood's mother was Gloria Henry? That makes her related to Dennis The Menace!!!! Oh btw - Erin Ellwood says to chill, that this house was an early example of her dad's work, hardly the "masterpiece" that is being bemoaned here. Still, she wishes the whole thing could have been handled a bit more elegantly. Add that one to the list...

  16. It sure took them long enough.
  17. I really don't understand why they couldn't have thrown us a bone with some well-known jazz like Pat Metheny, Hiromi, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Gregory Porter, Brad Mehldau, Joshua Redman, Benny Green, The Cookers, Eric Alexander, Diana Krall, Regina Carter, Wadada Leo Smith, Maria Schneider, etc. There are SO many acts they could have booked... but just so disappointing. I don't even want to think about what they're going to do for their 75th anniversary...
  18. I mean, the Mario movie was fun. Nothing wrong with fun. The whole Marvel thing, I'm not a fan of all of that, but Wandavision on Disney+ was highly entertaining. So was Loki. People are doing good work telling these type of stories. I think the "complaint" against all of it isn't that it's poor quality, it's just that it's all that "Hollywood" wants to do these days, and no money is offered for more offbeat projects. And that might well be a legit beef. Probably is.
  19. https://www.discogs.com/release/3203384-Various-Historical-Prez-Lester-Young-1940-1944 Cheap copies ($2.99), exquisite music in not-bad sound. Lester's first band after leaving Basie, Young Brothers band plus some absolutely astonishing 1944 Basie airshots with Prez absolutely all-in. Highly recommended.
  20. Like Jim I knew the bandmember of Mouse Rat from Parks and Wildlife years ago. "Location, Location, Location." I don't know how many vacant or parking lots there are, but there wasn't one apparently where Pratt wanted to be. And if you have money (he does, even after a divorce from Anna Farris) and you're a star "they just let you do it."
