  1. Yep, picked up a copy at the time - was a winner IMHO
  2. I had a number of communications with Michael in the 90s suggesting a BH Mosaic set - he was keen but had difficulty in choosing a cut-off date so in the end it didn't happen, until now
  3. The very best of Waldron/Lacy recorded live (over 4 hours worth) in Paris over 4 days in mid August '81 - spectacular music
  4. or you can get 5LPs (57-61) on 3 CDs via Fresh Sounds (all of the above minus the Atlantic with an Argo LP "Dorothy Ashby" added) https://www.freshsoundrecords.com/dorothy-ashby-albums/5708-the-jazz-harpist-5-lps-on-3-cds.html?search_query=dorothy+ashby&results=1

  8. The Fletcher Henderson disc (Vocalion & Pathe 1924-5) looks interesting but unfortunately 11 of the 25 tracks have been previously released on the Henderson/Armstrong Forte 3CD set, making it less appealing to me
  9. This relatively recent AA release (5LP/4CD) should certainly be up there
  10. I have the recording (Prez Box, Vol. 1) - absolutely abysmal SQ but the tenor definitely sounds like Lester
  11. and aren't those shirts so timeless & groovy
  12. I second that as this would have to be in my top 5 from this category https://www.discogs.com/release/29224915-Various-LA-Jazz-Institute-Presents-The-Complete-Crazy-Sunday-At-The-Lighthouse-September-13-1953
  13. OMG I'm shocked - he was a vital force in keeping the Blue Note label (and many others) alive - whenever I see those twofer BN LPs from the 70s I think of him I have a number of letters from him sent throughout the 90s, pre email days RIP Michael
  14. also good coverage in Wickes "Innovations In British Jazz"
  15. a contemporary of Joe Harriott though a bit younger
