  1. I'm in the same boat, but with around NINE CD-Rs that I paid for, sent back, but still haven't been replaced, or refunded. I stopped buying from Tommy after that.
  2. Just listened to this on Apple Music and while I am not near as familiar as many here with Mingus' music, this is an extremely enjoyable listen. Sound quality is excellent. I'll definitely be picking it up digitally and physically at some point. Pullen is fantastic. Kirk is amazing. Most of all, the music just seems so vibrant and alive. Hard to believe it was recorded almost 40 years ago.
  3. Another vote of satisfaction for the SHM CDs. Don't have a vinyl setup, but the SHM CDs are a substantial improvement over the domestic CDs, even on my lower-range system, and certainly when I'm listening on my Samsung Buds Live.
  4. I sprung for the Buck Clayton and the Teagarden Capitol. Would've been interested in the Eddie Condon CBS as well. Still considering the Teddy Wilson Verve, but already have For Quiet Lovers and I Got Rhythm on Japanese CDs. Perhaps that is enough.

    Mingus in Mono

All the Mingus Candid discs have arrived in my household. I've only listened to Mingus, but it sounds very good. I don't have the Mosaic, but it is a noticeable improvement on a previous Japanese release I had. Only three, not five tracks, though.
  6. yes just checked mine (Song for Biko from Tommy) and I think it is a CD-R too. No numbers on inner ring of CD. [sad face]
  7. One final bump along with my other list before donation. Everything is BOGO.
  8. One final bump along with my other list before donation. Everything is BOGO.
  9. I've had the privilege of seeing Grant Stewart live an in person at Smalls (obviously several years ago). After seeing him live, I've seemed to pick up anything he's on. Great show and great experience. FYI I'm also a fan of Eric Alexander and have seen him live with One For All. Since I'm too young to have seen the original masters at their prime, I perhaps am more inclined to appreciate and even be influenced by the those living the scene today. Who knows. Perhaps it is a function of, for example, only having seen a shell of Lou Donaldson at his age live. [shrugs] Sonny Rollins on the other hand was still bringing it even ~five years ago when I saw him. Maybe my perspective is skewed given my age. I'm just happy people are still making vibrant music and this jazz music we all love is managing to carry on. As for Smalls I've been a longtime financial supporter and may even sponsor a show one of these days. It's a great venue and I always try to visit when I am visiting New York.

  12. My thoughts as well. This is an engaging listen and a cohesive statement.
  13. George Colligan - Humanity (FLAC) George Colligan - More Powerful (CD+FLAC) George Colligan - Nation Divided (CD+FLAC) Denny Zeitlin - Live at Mezzrow (preorder) (FLAC) May also preorder Benny Green's new one, Benny's Crib and pick up his last release, Then and Now.
  14. I don't know the Blakey well, but agreed that the Dizzy Reece and Hutcherson were top notch. I know not everyone is enthusiastic about the Grant Green, but I also found that session more than enjoyable and certainly worthy of release.
  15. Wow, that's crazy! That's about $30 and $50 per CD. I'm glad many Japanese reissues are only 1,000 Yen these days.
  16. Add me to the list as a satisfied customer.
  17. Seconded. The Japanese reissues I purchased in the past few months (many) and listened to (a much smaller subset thus far) sound great. In fact I am positive at least some of them reuse the old BN Works masterings if that's your thing. I am thinking in particular of Andrew Hill's Black Fire, which sounds identical to my BN Works CD.
  18. Sent a 14 disc (!) list. Thanks all for the recommendations again.
  19. Thank you everyone. Lots to discover, apparently
  20. Anyone have any particular favorites? I have the Dexter Gordon studio set and a few of the live dates (all of which are very good), his collaboration with Jackie McLean (not as good as I would have hoped), but not much if anything else.
  21. Sent an e-mail re: Abrams, Muhal Richard The Complete Remastered Recordings - 9 CD BXS 1041 $26 Murray, David The Complete Remastered Recordings - 6 CD BXS 1042 $20 Roach, Max The Complete Remastered Recordings - 6 Cd BXS 1044 $20
  22. I am a subscriber and find it worthwhile as well. I did the middle tier. You get instant access to all new releases on the Greenleaf label, which is quite active. Obviously I like Douglas' his music and the music of his frequent collaborators like Matt UIery, Rudy Royston, Linda Oh, and Donny McCaslin.
