  1. 80's Verve stereo pressing but very clean. Solid purchase for $6. Wonderful recording.
  2. They upsample so you can hear what isn't there!
  3. Trying to decide which volume to pick up first in the range of Vol. 9-13. I have the complete hot 5 and & from Sony and a nice collection of stuff with the All-Stars. Looking for stuff with his Orchestra or other formations. Any suggestions?
  4. McKay's is in Nashville now too. Awesome store.
  5. Tom Gruzo - "Say When" Bought it because its on the 9 Winds label. Definitely a departure from the standard 9 Winds album. Straight ahead and enjoyable album.
  6. I got a cdr from them before. I'm sure it's difficult being an indie music store with a niche market. Every time I've asked if something was in stock for their site it never is. That's frustrating. Between that and another instance with them I've steered clear. I've also tried to be removed from the newsletter to no avail. They do give so nice info on new releases so I don't mind too much.
  7. interesting note from the DMG newsletter today ***** Notice to anyone who ordered the ORNETTE COLEMAN - New Vocabulary CD or LP from us and hasn't received it. We will not be getting any more copies to sell, very sorry about that. We have tried our best to get the label to send us another box of CDs & LPs but can't convince them to do the right thing. All back-orders are now canceled. - BLG/DMG **********
  8. Has anyone heard the Charles Tolliver Big Band Mosaic selects? I have a copy of Impact and the music is awesome but quality is awful.
  9. Fingerprints is a nice shop, kind of on the pricey side. If your looking to dig through vinyl Bagatelle's around the corner is better.
  10. Ordered Bobby Bradford and John Carter - Tandem 1&2 (remastered) Steve Adams and Ken Filiano - In Out Side Gavin Templeton - In Series Gavin Templeton - Asterperious Special John Armstrong Jazz Orchestra - Farewell and the book Dark Tree: Jazz and the Community Arts In Los Angeles
  11. Was just listening to Edge. will try to listen to this.
  12. Open Loose is at the Blue Whale Monday. I might try and go. If it was on the weekend I'd make it for sure.
  13. Update for anyone who was interested in this, got my copy today. 30 minutes of solo Vinny is always a good thing. Wish this was a bit longer but that is just being greedy. Vinny lives up to his high standards. Have already transferred it so I can soak it up via iPod at work tomorrow.
  14. Is the "hifi" $9.99. I was looking into it yesterday and it looked to still be $19.99
  15. I'll transfer it as soon as I get it. Agreed it is an odd media choice but the price is right.
  16. Bobby Bradford Quartet/Vinny Golia Sextet, which turned into a Septet at the Blue Whale. Amazing show and well worth the lack of sleep it produced!!! If only someone had taken their Tascam recorder to capture the music for repeated listening....
  17. Heads up to any Golia fans. A very limited tape only released a couple weeks ago. copied to post from www.goldlionarts.blogspot.com/. I just ordered my copy. I found it based on the discogs page. 3 New Cassette Releases From Gold Lion Arts! Gold Lion Arts is releasing 3 new cassettes this month, all of which were recorded live at our space. Copies are extremely limited, so if you are interested in any of these they won't last long. They are also only available on cassette. There will not be any digital versions of these releases. For info, please email goldlionarts@gmail.com Vinny Golia-Solo at Gold Lion Arts *LA windmaster Vinny Golia plays a variety of reeds, singing bowls, flutes and more in this wonderful recording. The solo set is a continuous piece, divided over two sides. It's very high energy and showcases a master at work. ***Limited to 75 copies. $6 Amy Reed-Solo Guitar *Amy Reed's continued growth and development as an improviser is apparent on this micro-release. Her electric guitar set, recorded in the summer of 2014 is flowing with beautiful, aggressive sounds with a nice arc going into Side B. The cassettes are only 10 min in length and are limited to 25 copies. ***25 copies $4 Ross Hammond and Catherine Sikora-Perfect Plasticity *This duo cassette release is the first recording made at Gold Lion Arts. It features Sacramento guitarist Hammond with frequent collaborator Catherine Sikora on Tenor Saxophone. Sikora, who hails from Ireland by way of New York is playing with a fire and the two get into some killer duo improvisations. Hammond is on electric and acoustic guitars and each piece finds the two weaving lines and textures into a cacophony of sound. Highly recommended!!!! ***50 copies $6 You can Paypal the cassette amount plus $3 shipping to goldlionarts@gmail.com (international orders please add $10 US for shipping). For any info on these releases please email goldlionarts@gmail.com or stop by the studio!
  18. Louis Armstrong - Satchmo Plays King Oliver my favorite version of St.James Infirmary ever
  19. Nicholas Payton released some fantastic work on Verve.
  20. Just ordered their mosaic set before its unavailable. I'll see Bradford with Golia next week.
  21. I've had a few days to spin both Ghetto Music and Lift Every Voice. Ghetto Music sounds great, I only have a needle drop cd-r to compare it to but this remaster sounds great to me. Lift Every Voice is fantastic!! I don't know how I've gone so long without hearing this! Not sure these remasters are worth replacing anything already purchased though. Will have to further investigate. I will use these SHM-CD's to fill missing holes over RVG's though. Already purchased a copy of Frank Foster - Manhattan Fever (mainly because it was $5) and looking into a few other titles I don't own.
