  1. The Tony Fruscella Atlantic is one of my absolute favourites. Nick Travis' "The Panic is on" is another that shares a similar status for me. For some reason I think of these two as a pair , even though there isn't too much in common other than era.
  2. Making my way through the J section of my LPs - I came across three Leroy Jenkins sessions that I'd not played in years. All on Black Saint - Mixed, Lifelong Ambitions, Urban Blues. All very different. Currently spinning the duet with Muhal Richard Abrams. It's pretty raw and bleak sounding with both musician pretty exposed. Well worth hearing again.
  3. Nice one, must dig my copy out , it's been a while
  4. I was in a similar position at Lon. A mix of issues and formats. The Joe Henderson and Hank 60s material is particularly close to my heart so I bought the respective Mosaics. I didn't do the same for the Hubbard set because I felt some of the sessions were a little weak to my mind..
  5. Very sorry to hear this. He contributed greatly to the community and had some wonderful stories
  6. Lacy/Bailey----Company 4------(Incus) A kind friend bought a large bunch of unplayed Incus LPs. He was selling off duplicates so I went for this and Company 6 although they all looked pretty interesting.
  7. I didn't realise that. The JJ set is a favourite.
  8. I had a P3 a decade ago and I regret upgrading away from it. That's many because I made a poor choice with it's replacement and also because the P3 was so simple to operate- no fuss, great fun. Snake oil upgrades to it's mains cable and tone arm wiring are available ( they do make a small difference)
  9. Paul Jeffrey-----Family------(Mainstream) I've not played this for many years. More adventurous than you might expect of Jeffrey. Interesting band with some ambition in the arrangements. Nicely recorded and my pressing is very strong ( better than Mainstream average). It's not earth shattering but worthy of a spin or two.
  10. Modern Art Trio--------s/t----------(Gleam) 1970 date reissued recently. D'Andrea sounding significantly more out there than I've heard previously. I've bits and pieces with him but this sounds more in debt to Cecil T with a dash of McCoy T. Nice insert mostly in Italian but with an abbreviated English translation of the liner notes. Pricey reissue but very good .
  11. Latest arrival from Newcastle John Pope——Citrintas——-(New jazz & improvised music recordings) Not sure what prompted buying this other than hearing some nice sounding clips on Bandcamp. It’s a soulful quintet ( no piano or guitar) . Grooves nicely and makes a good first impression. Hope that doesn’t sound like feint praise as the music strikes me as accessible but still adventurous. Any one else heard of this group.
  12. Sad news. His recordings are as numerous as they are wonderful. His duets with Jan Johansson are particularly fine. About a decade ago ACT released some JJ broadcasts which included the two musicians performing material from the famous "Jazz På Svenska" recordings.
  13. Re-organising my vinyl I thought I'd somehow lost this.....but found it hiding ( under V for various) with both my copies Anthony Williams' BN releases (NY mono) Tony Oxley ---------Ichnos-----(RCA) 1971
  14. I took a chance on this relatively recent release on Discus. It's as good as the samples on Bandcamp would suggest. I'm not familiar to any of the musicians on this release. The leader plays the trumpet. A modern version of Bubber Miley with lots of lovely growling and fluttering sounds. Very convincing effort. Charlotte Keefe----Alive! in the studio ----(Discus)
  15. My favourite tune. Fell in love with it on the quintet on “Seagulls of..”
