  1. Hopefully they can get a better actress to star as Lena. Is the controversy now officially ended, and there's possibly time now for news about the huge deficit and other real problems?

    Wadada Leo Smith

Damn! I looked, saw it was still on preorder price and somehow managed to order it! Broke again.

    Why I hate Miles

That's interesting. I can similarly say that I didn't have any antecedants at home to lead me to digging Miles. I got into the electric Miles stuff immediately; I had just come from five years plus in Africa and it sounded so RIGHT to me, it sounded like the African stuff and the British blues band stuff I heard on the air in Swaziland. Miles had that African sound of the band and that wah wah trumpet was almost pure Africa sound to my then young and weirded out by being back in America ears.

    Why I hate Miles

And "It Ain't Necessarily So" (which I think was a melodic influence on "So What") is how I feel about some of the comments in this thread!
  5. I'm trying a new drug, and it seems to be helping. . . .
  6. These are fantastic releases, I haven't been keeping up with all their output but they're a really quality reissue program, among the best, those and Jazz Oracle are probably my favorites because the notes are so comprehensive and entertaining. As for the OJDB. . . I love the OJDB and have sought out their entire recordings. I'll never tire of hearing the best of them. It's only rock and roll but I like it!

    Frog Records

I'm operating from memory, but I think there is very little overlap, that the Hep takes up where the Frogs leave off (and there is an excellent Signet cd that has the Okeh sides that were recorded BEFORE those on the Frog cds in R. T. Davies remastering, so it is possible to get all the material in Davies transfers with liner notes, sounding considerably better than the Chronogical Classics cds and including alternates.)

"Miles Davis owes me ten bucks!"

    Frog Records

I agree wholeh-heartedly, an excellent label in every way! I just revisited the three New York Volumes. . .fantastic stuff.
  10. Yeah, I could spend a cool grand on about six or seven huge box sets of complete blocks of recodings of Veloso, Bethania, and others. . . .Their Brazilain section is da bomba.
  11. The Adderley - Andrews is cool; I haven't spun it in a while, but it's worth investigating if you like the Brothers A.
  12. You're welcome. I figured this thread would be crowded by now! I'll leave some space for others. . . I could suggest about a dozen more. Lots of good stuff at the groove!
  13. Yes, I imagine it was amazing to see the Lost Quintet there, and would have been something else to be at the Cellar Door that one night of the four when McGlaughlin was there. Though the Sextet material without him is cooking too! This Cellar Door material is going to make one heckuva set of two cd sets or box set, whatever, when it comes out!
  14. I'm pretty sure mine are Ks; got them with high hats of the same nature with a beat old set of Ludwigs that came from the sixties, my firs set. The drums were not worth keeping; I replaced them at first with a Simmons kit because I was playing in blues-rock bands at the time and they were JUST the ticket, then a Sonor Performer set which I still have. I kept the cymbals though; I have them in storage and can't look at them at the moment. I've got two 22" rides, one drilled for rivets, one not. They sound like Tony Williams' cymbals did in 1964. I also have a modern flat top ride bought in about 1988, a 20". That would be an "A" then. Yeah, those would be hard to find these days I guess. Thanks for the explanation. Good luck!

    Why I hate Miles

That's an interesting quote, thanks for sharing it.
  16. Didn't know what one was. . . all but one of my Zildjans are ancient and not marked with a series . . . . Anyway, I don't know of any for sale. Is this one? This is on ebay right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=41446
  17. Hey, it's the best price I've seen on this one, and this is a very cool cd:
  18. Fiery. . . has Mobley and Philly Joe on one track. . . pretty interesting stuff.
  19. I'd consider this one, Barne with Jacky Terrason; it's nearly half the price it was a few months ago, it's got mellow stuff on it but adventurous too in its way. . . It's a great cd I keep coming back to.
  20. Been listening to some of that myself lately!
  21. The JSP Christian set is all live material. Would be funny if they boosted all that stuff from the sets put out by those other pirates, Definitive Records.
  22. I found a site on the web that said it was on M Street in Georgetown. . .
  23. I know it was in Washington, D.C., not sure of a street address. .. can look a bit.
  24. So what's the story on the Calloway discs? Were these done FOR JSP? Reissues of earlier volumes? I agree that it appears a new low blow re: the Berigan set.
  25. Doesn't matter. It won't change MY opinion! I'll bow out now, and try to ignore whichever of his manifestations appear.
