jazzbo Posted September 3, 2021 Report Posted September 3, 2021 I love the way that bass clarinet sounds! As far as the bass goes it seemed the same to me on the US or Japanese sets. Right now, another Mingus material disc: Normand Guilebault Ensemble "Hommage a Mingus" Quote

Yes, great album! I only discovered it via the 3-disc Lester Bowie Black Saint/Soul Note box, one of my favorites in that series. Quote

Lester Bowie and Amina Claudine Meyers go together like peanut butter & chocolate. Two great sounds that sound even better together.  Quote

There was some talk on here recently about his influence on the British saxophonist John Butcher. No. I've only got two and the other's on Elektra's American Explorer label and sounds like they were trying to make big money. I've been looking for his material since then (27 years) and found this on a blog the other day. So I can't give recommendations on the strength of that. I thought it was a killer, is all I can say. Jeff Crom has a good many of Vernard's records. Ask him.  MG  59 minutes ago, HutchFan said: I love this. Sounds silly, but I think it's my favourite record that I don't really like all that much. Now playing Grupo Sierra Maestra - Viaje a la Semilla - Egrem 1994   MG Quote

Dub Modal Posted September 3, 2021 Report Posted September 3, 2021 This is a good comp of Dolphy's Prestige recordings. Then it was on to: A so-so comp, but has some good playing. And now: So much better than Les Liaisons Dangereuses, which I think (at least that first disc) may have been rehearsals (need to check the booklet again). This big band in concert is phenomenal. Quote
