  2. R.I.P. ...
  3. I don't know that Blue Note will use that Connoisseur CD cover. They've been re-designing many (most?) of Patrick Roques covers for some reason. Someone over on the Hoffman forums claimed to know why this is happening but says that he was asked not to relay the rationale behind this. Maybe Roques managed to get a copyright for that particular use, so it can't be used for a different use without further compensation?

  5. There is discussion of Bob Btookmeyer’s unissued recordings that might be issued in the future. I sent Michael a couple of broadcasts that he didn’t know about, one was the premiere of Brookmeyer’s “Celebration” featuring Gerry Mulligan, the other a duet with Jim Hall in Stockholm with Red Mitchell joining them on a few songs. Scott Robinson has some unissued Brookmeyer music which he would like to release on his ScienSonic label. it was also a nice surprise to see one of my Brookmeyer reviews quoted in the book.
  6. Big fan of the Ian Carr book here. Bought it in hardback when it came out here in 1982 (not long before the Hammersmith Odeon gig I saw) and at that time there were no books out here on Miles. From my recollections, when Carr interviewed Miles in London in the early 80s he was aware of the book and Carr and viewed it favourably.
  7. Whoever designed that one must have just come out of the movie theatre having seen 'Close Encounters..' Gets my vote too. That one I will buy.
  8. I have a copy of the 2LP set too. Need to dig it out. Mike and Kate W. have two performances coming up. One in Torquay with his 'Band of Bands' and another in Greenwich, London of his Blake material. I hope at least to catch the Torquay gig. Just noticed that there was a free Q&A with Mike and Kate on 'The Cortege' reissue in Exeter on Nov 9th - sadly didn't know about it so missed it. Good that Mike is back in action and gigging again.
  9. ..... and Sonny Clark! I like Clay best as interpreter of Clark's compositions.
  10. Probably the cover of the later reissue:
  11. Somehow I overlooked this thread - a belated R.I.P. I have the New York Trilogy sitting on the shelf for years, waiting to be read ....
  12. Joe Locke “Sound Tracks – Jazz Versions Of Timeless Songs From The Cinema” Video Arts cd Japan Joe Locke with Billy Childs, Rufus Reid, and Gene Jackson
  13. Feeling a little funky this cold morning and wanting to wake up a bit more. . . . Starting off with Joshua Redman “Freedom in the Groove” on Warner Bros. cd. Hard for me to believe that it has been almost 30 years since this came out. . . I can remember buying it at Tower Records Austin. Joshua Redman – tenor, soprano & alto saxophone Peter Bernstein – electric guitar Peter Martin – piano Chris Thomas – acoustic bass Brian Blade – drums
  14. This one’s up in the schedule. It’s my favorite Patton and love the artwork. Got an original and no need to replace but good to see it will have new listeners.
  15. A bass player friend of mine has a cousin whose last name is Corbisiero, who used to be a Rugby player in England, till he got cancer. He recovered, and now he works for CBS covering Rugby games. I'm gonna ask him who I should pick when go over his house to jam tonight. He said Montreal 40
  16. I only heard the "The The" collaboration fairly recently. Some good stuff there! I've always liked his approach to guitar playing and phrasing. A fairly unique sound.
  17. To me Understanding is an OK album and cover. Blue John is my favorite Patton album, but it has the worst cover. Mothership is a great album and I'm an outlier in that I like most of the LY/rainbow series covers, maybe nbecause I own most of them that way having bought them as cutouts back in the day.
  18. Killer album (and cover)!

  20. That is intriguing (that the 1982 recording is floating around). I have no idea what they mean either. Even stranger, the 1982 recording is available for streaming on Naxos Jazz (though I think Naxos is generally not allowed in the US but it is in Canada). So maybe its scarcity is greatly exaggerated...
  21. I had no idea the 1982 recording was "in a legal limbo". Definitely worth hearing. It is on Youtube. I bought the Enja 2-CD set several years ago and there was no scarcity premium; discogs currently has it as low as US$10 + shipping, (which might not help you in Canada, of course). I'll try to listen to the forthcoming BBC release, but it'll have to be really good to merit a purchase. Thanks for posting.
