Blumenthal’s comments reminded me of this comment in the Pittsburgh Courier regarding Coltrane’s performance at the June 1965 Pittsburgh Jazz Festival, “John Coltrane soaring toward a private ionosphere of expression and leaving many behind, though some followed his trajectory”

This was the session of 17 April 1956. But Bear Family was "only" the reissue label of the 80s. The recording was made for the "X" label (RCA subsidiary). But all 3 tracks recorded that day remained in the can until they were released for the first time by Bear Family (BFX 15257) in 1986. In 1993 French RCA reissued those RCA sessions on CD.

Do you have any great stories about his playing days? We'd love to hear them.

I really liked his vocals with both Auger and Santana. He brought a lot of passion to their music. RIP, Alex

Alex Ligertwood has died at 79. RIP. I thought he was older than that. I think of him with Brian Auger's Oblivion Express, although the headlines focus on his time with Carlos Santana. https://www.bing.com/search?q=Alex+Ligertwood+dies&filters=tnTID%3a"PE_63865A82-7A6D-47E4-9195-4EF5DFFB112B"+tnVersion%3a"6665084"+Segment%3a"popularnow.carousel"+tnCol%3a"6"+tnOrder%3a"bbabe5b7-a66d-4e48-8543-c0fb28840f99"&FORM=BSPN01&ecount=50
