  3. Spent a few hours getting some things done before upcoming storms arrive and am now settling down for a little listening. Starting off with Duke Ellington “Copenhagen 1964” on Storyville cd. Ellington always lifts and separates me from my frustraton. 600×600 13.9 KB

  5. I like Elsbeth. It's definitely the character, which I have enjoyed since "The Good Wife," though now she's become Sherlock Holmes in many ways, and i enjoy how she is somewhat like Sherlock and Columbo combined. It's a fun show. . . I like fun shows to escape within.
  6. https://newportjazz.org/tickets I'm very cautiously optimistic that the lineup will start shifting back to jazz, since they have a new programmer. We'll see.
  7. Morning. I came across this while I scrolling on Instagram and was shocked. I never had any impression that these two played together. Does anyone have any more info about this? Thanks.
  8. My girlfriend likes Elsbeth. But it's definitely the same show over and over again. I think she likes the character as well as the famous guest stars that show up.
  9. Okay, you've no direct experience. In actual practice, there was a reason and a benefit, and I could not detect a real sonic deficit. There was better cabling available to use, and I could then use an EQ component after the DAC for both analog and digital components. I found however that using the balanced output of the phono preamp yielded slightly better sound than either the analog output with single-ended or the identical sounding HDMI I2S digital output and I got a Goldpoint 2 XLR into 1 XLR switcher to switch betwen phono preamp and DAC into that EQ component and discontinued the digital output.
  10. I liked the Elspeth character on The Good Wife so I watched the show a few times when it began. I burned out on it pretty quickly because the format tells you the solution up front and then you are left to watch Elspeth masterfully - or painfully and transparently after a few disappointing episodes - figure out the solution to the mystery. Tada!
  11. I'm up for the Henderson date on CD. My days of buying new vinyl when there's a CD option are slowly going away. I already have too many LPs that I don't have room for.
  12. I saw this band on tour at the time. It was a fun show. My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I seem to remember Hutcherson stealing the show. I'm pretty sure I also Tyner & Hutcherson play a set as a duet in support of the CD, "Manhattan Moods", but it's been a while so my memory is a bit fuzzy on that.
  13. My wife and I used to really like the show "Elsbeth" on CBS. But it has gotten ridiculously repetitive. Even worse, the mysteries are always "insta-solved". The latest one we watched, she gleamed the murderer in less than 30 seconds. I know we're supposed to believe that Elsbeth is very good at detecting, but this one was absolutely insane - the husband had already confessed to the murder.
  14. But a turntable is already analog. I wouldn't think there would be any benefit to converting it to digital for playback purposes. I could see using that digital output from my turntable to make a digital file for future playback but not when straight-up playing LPs.
  15. Indeed some intriguing recommendations of relatively "recent" recordings here ... Many of which I cannot recall having ever come across before. Maybe time to look closer as and when the occasions present themselves ...
  16. Perhaps something from the early modernist era that isn't too esoteric, like Charlie Ventura or early cool jazz (including the likes of Lars Gullen in Europe) is what you're looking for.
  17. Jerome Sabbagh - Stand Up! (Analog Tone Factory)
  18. This is proving to be a good blog. The recent Alan Pasqua's Milagro record is excellent and was completely unknown to me.
  19. This is a great response. Thanks everyone!
  20. Only a few cuts in, but damn does this sound good so far. Mid-1960s is one of my favorite eras for live Ellington.
