The other day I chanced upon a copy of the huge coffee table book "The Sound I Saw - Improvisations On A Jazz Theme" with the photographs of Roy DeCarava (Phaidon, 2001). It came my way as part of a huge jazz book haul, and I had not been aware of this book before. Very, very impressive - amazing that it took almost 40 years for the preparation and conception of these photographs and texts compiled in 1962 to materialize into an actual book. (I have a hunch, though, some of the photographs are even older than that - at least one pic from the book showed up in the 1955 "The Family of Man" exhibition at the MMA) The combination of photos from "everyday New York" at work and jazzmen at work is amazing and fascinating and they really tell a story ... Now my question to those familiar with this book: While I can identify a lot of the jazzmen pictured in the book there are many that I am unable to put a name to (or am unsure anyway). So I wonder: Does anyone know of any source where someone out there has gone to the trouble of identifying and listing all the jazzmen (and women) shown throughout the book? This task is certainly not made easier by the fact that the pages are unnumbered, and yet I wonder ... Any hints and leads will be appreciated!

I shipped from Korea via FedEx instead of EMS or DHL because it used to be the fastest service. We shall see how it goes. Via FedEx tracking it looks okay. I'll let everyone know how it ends up if you're interested.

I'm wondering if shipping via FedEx, DHL, UPS might improve the odds of getting what one ordered. For what it is worth, the customs harmonization code for LPs/45s is 85238090 / 85238010 The harmonization code for CDs is 85234920 going forward, these numbers might be useful to provide sellers when shipping stuff to the US.

I place an order with Gold Star Coffee in Toronto about every 4 months or so. Great coffee at great prices. I am worried that these shipments will now be held up. I may have placed my last order until 2028.

RIP Danny - versatile & wonderful bassist saw him play with Richard Thompson here in Brisbane, late 90s? Have been enjoying the recent Nick Drake 5LP "Making of 5 Leaves Left" set - quite a bit of unreleased Danny here (10 previously unreleased takes)

Shipping to the US is somewhat problematic. I ordered some vinyl inners and outers from a company in Canada and it was shipped but got stuck at customs. Because packages are only allowed to be there five days it was returned to the supplier who has now te-shipped it.

R.I.P. I was fortunate enough to see him several times with Richard Thompson.

Not Fake!!! Bob Crosby Mosaic Mentioned on Jazz Messengers?
Brad replied to colinmce's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Iām not that familiar with Crosby. I listened to some of the audio samples, which were ok but not compelling enough to want to order the set. . -
Oh no! RIP. A master.

What live music are you going to see tonight?

A blast from the past - Devo and B-52s were playing in Toronto last night. It threatened to rain the whole evening, and I think the B-52s cut a couple of songs from their set list to make sure people didn't get caught in the rain, which finally started around 11. It could have been a lot messier! Fun night!
