  2. Yes! Not to be confused with the Black & Blue album of the same name that was reissued on CD.
  3. Just wanted to say thank you for everything! I really enjoyed those Ellington and Co. discs a lot!!!
  4. What was the view on the relationship between the likes of William Parker and Matthew Shipp and the core Downtown group?
  5. More Baden Powell:
  6. To pick one example - think of Marty Ehrlich and Tim Berne’s relationship with Julius Hemphill (and to a lesser degree Anthony Braxton). Interesting analogue, say, to Gerry Mulligan playing with Ben Webster or Johnny Hodges.
  7. Today
  8. A quick read of this article finds me agreeing about the writing of Stuart Nicholson. But as a long time journalist and broadcaster, I may be unfamiliar with European artists if I'm not on their promotional mailing lists. Of course, there is no time to hear everything sent to me, but I do prioritize listening to CDs vs. downloads or streaming links. I do realize it has gotten too expensive for many artists and labels to justify sending physical product from Europe, although some still do, like Criss Cross Jazz and Livia Records.
  9. Re-visiting this new release from Immanuel Wilkins. Immanuel Wilkins Quartet “Live at the Village Vanguard, Volume 1” Blue Note cd 300×271 5.69 KB Looking forward to another volume!
  10. Bill Evans Trio “Portraits at the Penthouse: Live in Seattle” Resonance cd 1966 with Eddie Gomez and Joe Hunt. Very nice imo.
  11. Cooler and soggier today. Tobi our new dog will not be happy about that. He is more reactive to rain and storms than any other dog I’ve had. But he’ll get through. Starting off with a great Wayne Escoffery album, “Alone,” on Smoke Sessions cd. Beautiful sound and delicate interplay. A great opener for the day.
  12. April 28 Mickey Tucker - 1941 Saw him with the 'Jazztet' in Vienne (France), July 9, 1982 https://www.jazzavienne.com/fr/programmation-1982/michel-petrucciani-trio-jazztet-freddie-hubbard-joe-henderson … such a wonderful night – a highlight in my live!
  13. would be closer to a Mosaic Select but would definitely be a goer for me
  14. Thanks for that rostasi! I note that his list of Americans in Europe is over sixty years old.
  15. "The Continued Imbalance of the Transatlantic Jazz Business"
  16. Even tho the non-percussive instruments sound lousy, it actually has a very calming feel to it. I'd love to hear a generative system that reproduces these instrumental sounds in the more realistic way that you can get these days from these kind of systems.
