While I was thoroughly delighted to see Giancarlo Stanton, of all people, manufacture a small-ball run last night, this undoubtedly was the highlight of yesterday’s MLB games: Adell robs 3 HRs in one game

I like Marion Brown but this record never really got me. Always nice to see renewed interest in him

You got it. I love this live album, and the fact that it's dedicated to Abdul Wadud. Dayes' cello is definitely a standout to me.

I bought this DVD awhile back and need to get around to watching it. The original French film is supposed to be far better than the US remake "Sorcerer," which probably would have benefited from keeping the original title, instead of using the name of one of the two rickety tracks used in the remake. -
Since my wife and are bringing Fred Hersch in for a solo piano benefit concert in Chattanooga on April 21st, I interviewed him recently for Timeless Jazz, which is scheduled to air on Sunday, April 19th from 6 to 8 PM ET. It will also stream live at WUTC.org, I have encouraged the station to have a podcast available by the next day on their home page, we'll see if they can do it, as it would be helpful for ticket sales, since they will receive the net revenue from them. Beginning April 26th, my show moves to a 7 PM ET start time. https://www.wutc.org/2026-03-25/wutc-presents-fred-hersch-at-utc-fine-arts-center

So if it's IA I probably have it. https://www.discogs.com/sell/item/3932399362 It's 'The Journey' from Tom Skinner's live album. I knew I knew it. In fact I think the studio version was on the only BFT I have done. Kareem Dayes on cello amongst a largely hometown crew

I've been reading this. Are there any other bios of him? Haven't seen much. I'm a couple chapters in and finding this really excellent! It exactly answers my interests at this moment because I've been going through his recorded output but somehow Benny doesn't seem to have been documented that much in print - a few articles and liner notes that are mostly sketchy and lackluster - in spite of being marvelous and kind of important in the development of jazz. This book has a gratifying amount of detail, somewhat along the lines of Basie's autobiography, so there is a lot to take in. But the research and writing are top notch and the author seems to have been quite friendly with Benny and received a lot of support in the writing of the book from Benny and many of Benny's associates.
