  1. Past hour
  2. Great contributor over many decades. I have what must be hundreds of discs he produced on Prestige, Cobblestone/Muse, and Xanadu. I was not aware of his design and photography work!
  3. Damn! RIP
  4. RIP Don Schlitten! Most of my first jazz LPs were Prestige records, so for my experience he was there from the start.
  5. Today
  6. Donald Byrd “Off to the Races” Blue Note Japan 24 bit by RVG lp facsimile cd. Stereo version. Sounds pretty darned good to me on my system today.
  7. Absolutely right! In terms of how a producer's name alone could make you buy an album by a completely unknown artist, Alfred Lion and Don were the twin pillars. Honestly, I had no idea who most of the leaders on Xanadu's albums were until I bought them. I bought them sight unseen, but they almost never disappointed. RIP.
  8. I never knew the depth of Don Schlitten’s background, he will be missed.
  9. . In such ways do all good things end, by ending.
  10. The Teodross Avery Quartet “In Other Words” GRP cd, produced by Michael Cuscuna, recorded by Rudy Van Gelder. I like this guy.
  11. Will take the Kenton Presents and Hemphill Boye box happily
  12. Yesterday
  13. I love the artwork on the records he produced, often photographs he had taken himself. The jarring contrasts of photographs and font really appeal to me.
  14. Confirmed that the PBS app allows streaming of this documentary, along with the Max Roach American Masters doc. Watching the Roach now, and will probably rewatch the Sun Ra one later.
  15. 👍- LP 2 - originally released as Straight Ahead (New Jazz 8255)
  16. Joe Comfort!
  17. What an incredible legacy he leaves behind. His name was second only to Alfred Lion when it comes to, "If his name is on it, it's gotta be good".

    Willie Colon RIP

I'm sitting here listening to Willie Colon on Felipe Luciano's great show, Latin Roots. He plays the music of all the great Latin music artists, and dedicated his show to Willie Colon today. RIP
  19. Holy Ghost

    Jackie McLean

Isn't McCoy Tyner the only BN artist to ever have been listed as "Etc" on the front of a BN jacket? If not, should Norman Connors get the same listing? McCoy didn't ruin any BN date. Edit to add as a sideman for Joe Henderson, and no relation to Wayne's Etc album.
  20. Thanks Dan, for bringing this to our attention. Just seeing his name in your post reminds me of so many great albums I bought throughout my life. His pairing of Sonny Criss and Tal Farlow on Prestigr was truly inspired, and Xanadu helped resurrect the career of Jimmy Raney. I had no idea that he also did the photography for so many great records, also! RIP
  21. This doc is really, really good. I recorded this almost a week out and missed the King records doc afterwards.
