I can ask Matt about it; he first popped up in New York around 1984. William played with some of those people but irregularly, and I think there was a divide between the places that Zorn and Chadbourne were setting up and the post-loft environment that Parker et al were occupying. Then again, Zorn, Chadbourne, and Polly Bradfield were playing with Frank Lowe and so was William Parker (there's also that trio record with Horvitz, WP, and Butch Morris). Cross-pollination did exist.

Yes! Not to be confused with the Black & Blue album of the same name that was reissued on CD.

A quick read of this article finds me agreeing about the writing of Stuart Nicholson. But as a long time journalist and broadcaster, I may be unfamiliar with European artists if I'm not on their promotional mailing lists. Of course, there is no time to hear everything sent to me, but I do prioritize listening to CDs vs. downloads or streaming links. I do realize it has gotten too expensive for many artists and labels to justify sending physical product from Europe, although some still do, like Criss Cross Jazz and Livia Records.

Cooler and soggier today. Tobi our new dog will not be happy about that. He is more reactive to rain and storms than any other dog I’ve had. But he’ll get through. Starting off with a great Wayne Escoffery album, “Alone,” on Smoke Sessions cd. Beautiful sound and delicate interplay. A great opener for the day.
