  1. Past hour
  2. 75th anniversary of the local Bach Festival. Tonight, two Harpsichords recreating the contest between Louis Marchard and Johann Sebastian Bach that never took place. Alexander von Heissen, now teaching in Leipzig, and his former teacher, Eva Maria Pollerus in a nice local baroque church.
  3. This album was originally recorded under the leadership of trombone player Willie Wilson, but was never released. Later it was released as a Freddie Hubbard album. A more recent reissue is under Duke Pearson's name. Pepper Adams, and Lex Humphries also appear.
  4. Today through Dec. 7, all Criterion titles are half off at Barnes & Noble stores and at bn.com.
  5. Yeah, I should pick up the CDs for the alts. Been meaning to do this but haven’t. The LPs as issued are excellent.
  6. Today
  7. Yes! Terrific stuff!
  8. Anticipating the new Hendrix box today, I’m spinning disc 2 of this penultimate one. “Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision” cd 2
  9. Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, Chestnut Cabaret, Philadelphia, September 30 1983
  10. Great points. And what about those people that read several books at the same time, rarely finishing one before picking up another? Asking for a friend ...
  11. This Milestone CD compiles two Jazzland LPs: The Soulful Piano of Junior Mance and Big Chief!
  12. Ordered mine the other day, really looking forward to this one
  13. The first thing I would say to this is that I don't believe it at all & AI agrees, saying this about World Population Review, "The website is generally reliable but should be used with caution as it does not always provide accurate information." In this particular instance, how the hell could they come up with this number? Who reports every book they read in a public way? Do any of you do this? This seems more likely a statistic from some website like Goodreads, which is going to exclude a ton of non-readers by definition. Someone who doesn't read books is not going to open a Goodreads account. The other thing I would add is that when I was still working, there were many mornings spent around the breakroom table where I was pretty much the only one who regularly talked about books I was reading.
  14. Another cold morning with a wife fighting pain. I got her back to sleep and read about someone’s upcoming “trillion dollar pay package.” That made me shiver and think of “Million Dollar Bash” so I put on disc 3 of this great box set. Bob Dylan "Bootleg Series Vol. 11 The Basement Tapes Complete " Columbia 6 cd set, disc 3
  15. Everest LPBR 5077 (FSR 511 - 1986) - Ernie Wilkins "Here Comes The Swinging Mr. Wilkins" - rec. 1959/60
  16. It's 6 CDs, not 4... The Tracklist can be seen here at Bandcamp https://corbettvsdempsey.bandcamp.com/album/the-bottle-tapes Thanks for the hint!
  17. Most likely I'll get this, even though I very rarely made it over to the Empty Bottle. One time I saw the Portico Quartet play there, which wasn't exactly typical... And indeed that appears to have been 2010, so not even in this timespan.
