Zev's RSD Releases - Jamal, Lateef, Henderson & Petrucciani
Dub Modal replied to Harbour's topic in New Releases
Well my apologies everyone. I merged tranemonk's comment above with the larger RSD April 2026 thread and lost the original title. Working on finding a solution in the meantime. -

Same. I mean, I know they're pigs, but such is life I'll stay away from Whole Foods and that kind of thing. -
Boutique? I think of limited distribution/roster/releases. Small in both size and ambitions.

It's based on the novella, "Intermission" by Owen Martell, which I read a number of years ago. It took place at his parents' house in Fla, where Evans went to recuperate from the eight months of hell he went through when he was with Miles Davis. They played for mainly Black audiences, who were intolerant of the presence of a white musician in Miles' band. According to Gene Lees, Evans was jeered at by the audiences, and he received little if any support from most of the members of the band (again, according to Gene Lees- I'm not sure which book this was from-"Cats on Any Color"( ?), so hold a seance and ask gene Lees if any of this bugs you. IOW, don't bother me. The book mainly centered on Evans' relationship with his father, and no musicians appeared in it, so the film obviously adds a lot of material not mentioned in the book.

Though Onyx is defunct their releases are fairly easily acquired and for less than say the Uptown releases I want but don’t have.

Emergency Vol 1. Tony Williams Lifetime. The occasional vocals ( Tony I guess) are terrible but otherwise stunning music. Pre Bitches brew?

RIP. Prolific until recently and quite largely known in France beyond the jazz public.

Tony Tuff's Wha we a go do Sly on drums (RIP). Amazing album that VP just reissued, digitizing it for the first time. Been a reggae fan for decades now and have never seen this one before. Better late than never. -

Very sad. Rest in peace to one of the last of the hero era.

Been hot and cold with Ornette in the post Science Fiction years. Have not played this one in almost a decade. I'll break it out. NP
