    CD Japan

I definitely will limit my overseas orders, though I confess I ordered from cdjapan today . . . I could not resist the new Miles Davis 1964 SACD. There was an additional "fees/charge" of 13 dollars. . . I swallowed it as I had some cash from an audio sale.

  6. This set lands right where I live: Yank Lawson and Billy Butterfield (both of whom made nice contributions to the V-Disc set) are superlative in the Crosby organization.
  7. No but I’ll ad that to my ‘to play’ list thanks Mark!
  8. September 22 David Krakauer - 1956
  9. Folks here might find this interesting: https://bombmagazine.org/articles/2025/09/15/richard-dickie-landry-by-clifford-allen/ Dickie is, in my mind, a national treasure.

  14. https://www.nomadmusic.fr/en/album/un-hiver-a-majorque She plays on the exact type of pianino that was sent to Chopin while staying in Mallorca with George Sand, although it arrived only days before they left. The stay there was unpleasant for various reasons, but still he finished the Préludes heard on this recording.
  15. wow! because the lack of copies in the european stores, I ordered it directly, and arrived in Italy in two working days!
  16. September 22 Ken Vandermark - 1964
  17. For those wondering about the Bob Crosby band, here's a partial discussion (focusing on the Bob Cats): Personally, I have quite a bit of Bob Crosby on vinyl, but the reissues (of the band's commercially released 78s) in the vinyl era were a huge mess. You tended to get almost the same things over and over again, while others continually fell by the compliers' wayside (though some of these "misses" I've heard elsewhere are worth exploring. ) So my LPs have lots of overlaps AND gaps. OTOH I've never come across the Halcyon CD series mentioned in the above thread, but i dont think I'd have invested in a "complete" series anyway.
  18. enjoying this recent JIB release (#4 from the contemporary Jazz Now series) The Dark Days Quartet (named after a James Baldwin text of essays) perform James Baldwin inspired improv & composed material Pat Thomas from the group "Ahmed" on ivories with Cleveland Watkiss on loops & recitation/vocals (extracts from the Baldwin essays). 20. Just stumbled on this when looking up Ricky Ford albums. Interesting because Mark Soskin was also the piano player with Sonny and Jerome at that Montreux gig. I'm a big fan of hers. Have seen her with Vijay Iyer and Tyshawn Sorey a number of times. Who's in the Quintet?
