  2. Pops for me too. Disc 1
  3. Gheorge, good to see you enjoy your life! Now playing the third disc of the seriey with German Southwest Radio recordings:
  4. Yes, they are wonderful performances.
  5. The Jazz Modes - The Jazz Modes Play Excerpts From The Frank Loesser Musical The Most Happy Fella (Atlantic) This one's OK, but it's not grabbing me. I saw Rouse's name on there and figured that was enough. It wasn't.
  6. Today
  7. I just picked up the Willis Jackson one from Dusty Groove.
  8. Last night, in the small hours.....I had an extremly happy mood, so happy. Thanking the Godnesses for the Love I found with beautiful Andreea-Irina. Finished a compositon, that will be on my next album, with lyrics and everything. Went into the kitchen and cooked for the following 3 days (love to cook in the night, but what is there what I don´t like to do in the night with the exception of sleeping....😋) And in that superb state of spirits, of course I had to spin the one I love most from all of them, though I had not spinned this for at least 10 or 15 years. So wonderful, You here it and never want it to end 😍
  9. Dizzy Gillespie – Dizzy Goes Hollywood This is unexpectedly great. A lot of it is down to the interplay between Gillespie and James Moody. Can anyone think of other records that had them both together in a near co lead role?
  10. Starting off a quiet and pretty morning with Lous Armstrong “Pops is Tops: The Complete Verve Studio Albums” 4 cd set, disc 1 Great singing and playing from THE MAN.
  11. Nice ! I've heard an early quartet played by Quartetto italliano only ... Several people think these are excellent and i am curious about 'the good one's' on this set ... Hope to find it someday !
  12. Ts find, first listen. Several extra Schubert songs on disc. This will become 'a favorite' of mine ... Sensitive heartfelt Schubert like i've never heard before. I've never been a fan of Dieskau's Schubert.
  13. Ha, you're well stocked anyway (as ar eothers who've commented in this thread). By comparison I seem to ahve just a sampling of he bare essentials (the Blue Notes 1205 and 1206 and some assorted 50s on Verve and Riverside and the one with Papa Bue on Storyville, but that should do, I guess). But as a "period piece" in between it is fun every now and then to listen to a rare George Lewis track that surfaced on one of those CD-Rs with radio broadcasts and amateur concert recordings from local jazz events in the 50s and 60s that I was able to take home in recent months, in this case an excerpt from an airshot of 16 February 1967 featuring a local oldtime jazz band (The Goodtime Five) who played a "get-well" concert for George Lewis in the hospital where he had been hospitalized during a tour in Germany. And as the radio speaker announced at the beginning of this excerpt, George Lewis was well enough again so nobody was able to restrain him from joining in on the proceedings for their collective rendering of "Alexander's Ragtime Band". A slice of history that's not in every discography ...

  15. It's always a struggle! I have several of those shows on my list too, but I also included the conflicts. I tend to make many of those decisions on the fly ... depending on my mood and logistics. Since it's impossible to see all the shows you want to see, I comfortable with whatever I see. Roscoe and Tyshawn is a must-see, though! I saw Parker's Expansion Trio in Chicago at the Sound & Gravity Festival last September. Definitely worth seeing.
  16. I own a lot of these, and have the Red Holloway on order. Nice series.
  17. I just recently revisited Really the Blues and Turn Me Loose White Man! Learned a lot. Thanks for your work on that! A friend called me an expert on roots music and I was so embarrassed after having worked my way through those 2 collections! He has no idea.
  18. Yesterday
  19. I just picked up 3 more of these today. I'm looking forward to spinning them over the next few days. I got the Gene Ammons, Red Holloway & another of the Johnny Hammond Smith discs.
