How many posters from 2003 are still here on the board?
Big Al replied to ghost of miles's topic in Forums Discussion
Joined March 9, 2003. Bounced back & forth between here & the BNBB (mainly to watch Heaney & Albertson argue). I remember Jazz Central Station, too. Regular poster thru 2012. Occasional lurker since then. Glad the board is still going and grateful for the friendships developed over the years. I still listen to old Blindfold Tests from years back; lots of great memories associated with those. I *really* miss the old Jazz Trading Post. -

What Classical Music Are You Listening To?

If you want to get it all in one whack, that set is probably your best bet. There are other releases I think might sound a bit better on cd, for example all the Bird material that Savoy/Denon Japan released I personally prefer for Savoy, but that's a lot of discs not assembled in a set, and does not have the Dial material. The Spotlite might be the best way to go for Dial. In my opinion now, decades after scurrying and collecting the material, the differences in most of the releases is not VAST and for listening and studying and enjoying Bird most will suffice. . . with that Atlantic/Savoy set probably the most sensible score.

If I'm looking for more than just the master takes, is the 8CD Savoy and Dial box preferred? Or are there better discs that have the complete Savoy and Dial sides separately? I know there's this set for the Dial sides on Spotlite, for instance, that I've heard good things about.

Marcos Valle “Estatica” Far Out cd A friend of mine recommended this cd to me and I am glad I picked it up. A nice mix of styles, sounding like a 'seventies music but also more contemporary, and good sound.

The first tune just started. Not something I would expect Lee Morgan to play! -
Percy always strikes me as thoughtful and sincere.

It seems to me the tab called 'Philharmonic Two'. It sounds like the classical portion is first, but she mentioned Wayne Shorter. -
