Wait a minute - are you asserting that people who hate jazz are capable of perceiving the current crop of jazz musicians are mediocre and therefore any sense of superiority pisses these people off because they can tell that jazzers are 'full of it'? That's completely ridiculous. Non-jazz fans, even self-proclaimed "haters" of the music are going to recognize that the current group of "mediocre" jazz musicians are in fact mediocre. Maybe, just maybe, they just reject that sense of smug superiority from jazzers, and don't have an f-ing clue about the music itself. I think you are "overthinking" Dan.

I think the changes were made for Sony, Best Buy, cable companies, etc. Don't watch enough tv to require a need to see the pores of Tucker Carlson.

Not a "straight reissue" as you stated earlier. I reversed the sides for a "much better listening experience" and the mastering of my lp was way beyond the Ensayo original. While I have a couple thousand lp jackets left, I do not have a better scan. I did the same procedure with the Ensayo Lucky Thompson date. Lucky said "It's obvious you have the real tapes".

Music is at best the music of youth/hormones for most Americans. After "youth" most of us gravitate to nostalgia to perpetuate an illusion of youth. Few Americans have an understanding of works beyond this pop culture. The idea of stuff to stimulate the heart and mind beyond personal experience is gone by adulthood.

I have not heard the session. I've known about the session since the mid '70s and based my response on conversations with McLean and Cuscuna.

'cause it sucks. As I understand only first takes were made 'cause JM was unhappy with the drummer and wanted the session over. Gotta respect the wishes of the leader.

All of his stuff is "by the numbers". Nothing to surprise, but much comfort. OK but not really my cup of tea.
