  1. Last Mosaic I listened to was over a year ago. Comforting to know some of this stuff is on the shelf but.........
  2. Your generation and Jim's and mine (where do we draw the lines?) have already been screwed. That's the deal. Now you have to live with that information. Any idea who the cops are, so you can report the crime? True, we've all been screwed. But the nature of the perps is such that there are ample opportunities (never refused, it seems) for post-screwing screwing. My advice was offered in that light. Sounds good. Yours truly Ben Dover
  3. Yes. please, all good wishes to CJ. He seems to be a smart music fan and I think we should all hope for the best for him. Go CJ!
  4. I am really disturbed by the direction of this thread. The future of "the music" and how it develops is a huge question for me. If the answer is posts above, we be gone. Music should be a living thing, not parasites mining the past for a "style" on which to build a career. That shit don't work anyway.
  5. Most of my favorite Shaw performances are as sideman. His "leader" dates always disappointed with the one exception of "Stepping Stones".
  6. Might I suggest if "a-g isn't often my cuppa" you would miss the news.
  7. T'was a tribute to the club.
  8. I thought it was going to be a Collector's Choice or whatever... Multidirection is great; haven't heard the first one. Haven't had "Collector's Choice" issues in about 20 years. Clifford, do you know what the "CC" series was? Edit to say: Understanding the various reissue series is more important than understanding music. OTOH, do you know what the "whatever" series is?

  10. I have never seen the book but I look to Davis for a personal take on things. I like what I have read a great deal.
  11. I think it was residue from shaking hands with Tim McCarver before the game.

    Red Mitchell

No, and he probably can't spell either.
  13. I will agree to the extent I see your post as a "fall back position" of sorts. The majority of the "contemporary" music I hear is one or two steps above "making the changes and playing the licks" etc and that is what is most disheartening for me.
  14. Sad indeed. It is easier to adopt/adapt a "style" than to create new music. Those days are temporarily (i hope) suspended. The "death of jazz" occurred when "style" became more important than music.
  15. Foots Thomas was a&r for the label and probably claimed publishing in return for the gig. Not unusual for the time.
  16. We will await Guy's opinion.
  17. Why the hell did Fox have Johnny Cougar singing before the game? If they wanted a music act, Detroit could have delivered.
  18. They DO have cabs in this cow town. Gotta go to Bryant's. Not a value judgement, just a fact.
  19. Sorry, I thought this topic was about an old friend.
  20. Thank God he's out of his Dylan phase. All the best Matthew.
  21. IMHO, it was a lame attempt to get bucks for decent musicians. No reason to pay for it. Really? Have you played it again in recent years? I think it's quite good. Have not listened in recent years. It could be nice but the feeling of "missed opportunity" lingers. I was hearing all these folks live at the time and the record seemed a huge compromise. I'm certain the musicians didn't embarrassed themselves and delivered a decent project.
  22. I had no idea she was alive either.
  23. Copyright was supposed to protect creativity. Sorry, didn't know I umputed your motives. Are you insulted 'cause you are cheap or 'cause you are selfish? I'll have to go back and check. You don't get it. I'm trying to protect the source material AND the creation of more original material. Simple research on "compulsory licensing" should answer some of your questions about that.
