Did you like his group w/Steve Coleman? Guy I'll second the question (and to whom the question is directed). Or to be more specific, Chuck, how about the Holland groups with both Coleman and Kenny Wheeler?? Heard most Holland dates and don't actually own anything from the last 30 years. Heard them "live" too. First heard him in person with Miles in 1968. He was very fine. I think he has been an amazing player and tried to assemble a recording session with Warne, Dave and Barry to follow All Music. Never happened for any reason beyond my finances at the time. Dave and Barry said yes and Warne said "it has possibilities" but ultimately I didn't.

To the issue at hand - the Playboys lp - I believe it was a "made up" controversy to pump sales of the record AND to provide an alternative package for stores with more conservative tastes. As evidence of this I offer the (then current) business association between PJ and Playboy.

You are out of control here Rooster. Cuscuna found 9 sets of films for unissued dates and all of them came out years ago. There were another bunch of test pressings made and beyond that master tapes edited for issue. Lots of steps involved in preparing a date for issue. The "artwork" is the last. Assigning the catalog number is one of the first things you do - artwork and master tapes can't be completed without the number.

Even if it is the 8th, get the Slovak 4th.

Gotta say my interest in this session revolves around Chick's internal battle between wanting to be a "more sophisticated Bill Evans" or a "cutting edge jazz musician". This "battle" continued for a couple of years until he found Return to Forever and his holy land. Stopped paying any serious attention after that.

You are thinking way too hard. Are you sure Playboy stopped it? What do you really know and why do you really care? FWIW, this all took place when Bock and Hefner were cooperating on Playboy lp boxes.
