  1. It's a quiz. Nothing if you get it right - worse if you miss.
  2. Mister Mooster be makin' fun of a recent classical listening thread. DD complained about "segregating music" or some such and I was kind enough not to mention the Rat thread, the Greeze thread or any other thread. Now my mammalian friend makes fun. He's still my friend but I'm not amused.
  3. Since people seem to be ringing in with useless posts - never read it.
  4. Claude Debussy's Images conducted by Ataulfo Argenta. Don't know if he recorded any of the "Wittgenstein" concerti, let alone one by an "Iberian".
  5. FWIW, as a record retailer (at the time), Alfie sold many more copies than the other recent records 'cause Rollins fans loved his playing on the date. It seemed like the "Prestige Sonny" returned to form. Some complained about the "cheezy" Nelson arrangements, but everybody loved Sonny's "swagger". I'd guess Alfie sold somewhere around 3 times more than the other 2 Impusles dates - at the time.
  6. My point is the RIAA gold record status is of no real value when comparing record sales. My Favorite Things may have sold twice as many copies as the others but we'll never know.
  7. No reason to use the RIAA database as proof of anything. The only info they have is stuff sent by the record companies and that is spotty at best.
  8. where did I (even) imply this?
  9. If you are really interested in vinyl for "sound", why no questions about the source tapes - analog or digital? Digital tapes to vinyl only add surface noise.
  10. Spanking the monkey just got a lot less stigmatized. Funny thing is, that's a photo Lon took of himself. He has underwear with his picture on it?
  11. Lots of "projecting" here Jim. Sonny caved into "career pressures" before the RCA contract.
  12. He really prefers squirrels. He goes nuts when they swish their tails around.
  13. Earl Hines "Quintessential '74". I'd say it's a masterpiece of improv.
  14. I guess most "famous" Ellington detractors are from Canadia.
  15. You must have a very small house. If you could throw out an empty Cream of Wheat box and fit 2 Miles boxes in, screw you - not a reasonable excuse.
  16. How'ja build those neck muscles?
  17. I have the pic of him with Gitler and George Lewis. B-)
  18. Might try emailing me at cnessa@earthlink.net. B-)
  19. So much for my memory.
  20. IIRC, the lp called Pitchin' Can is comprised of one long performance of something other than the Cal Massey tune called Pitchin' Can.
  21. I have that same fond memory, but I also seem to recall that they had Jo cast as the trumpet player and Roy as the drummer. Does that ring a bell. as it were? Yes, I remember them playing the "wrong" instruments. The story had Ethel on her death bed and the show's heros bringing her old band back for a reunion.
  22. Why not a thread about About Time instead?
  23. Did you see the original broadcast? Anyone?
  24. Yup, stupid mistake. I drove 50 miles to watch it at a friend's house since we didn't get the station. Boris Rose issued the music on one of his "labels".
