  1. 40 years? You're a slow reader, Chuck! Hey! I took a "speed reading" class at the University of Iowa in 1962! Eventually you placed your book in this machine and it drew a curtain down the page to make you read faster. Then we were tested on comprehension. Learned the facts but not the flavor.
  2. Geez! I screwed something up? Imagine that!
  3. No dis to you or Mr. Addey but maybe credit should be given to the original producer and recording engineer.
  4. It refers to equalization, a preamp function. The RIAA curve became the standard and was built into the equipment. You can read about it HERE
  5. Sadly, we won't be able to attend this year. Ann and I leave Thursday morning for a 10 hour drive to central Iowa.
  6. Nah, we invade Ohio first (red state) so I can watch our friend Conn/Paul squirm.
  7. Yup.
  8. So,,,,,,,,I guess this means I'll be getting MUCH more respect around here.

    Prez' Horn

Why are all the pads on the top side of the horn?
  10. Hey, it is late at night so I may be off base, but do I remember "boston" being another name for "stride"?
  11. That's never stopped anyone from not voting in the past.
  12. Last time I saw/heard Conte was the early '80s and he was takin' no prisoners.
  13. I think Burl Ives is dead & don't think he listened to the Art Ensemble.
  14. Do not ignore the Naxos Bartok recordings of Gyorgy Pauk. The concerti are slower than I like, but beautiful and the chamber stuff is first rate.
  15. If anyone cares, I have 2 copies of the Japanese issue of Have No Fear left. It has one extra tune. Now that the dreaded commercialism is out of the way - Von is a MF and it is best reflected in my 2 issues. Live performances are another story. What a wonderful man he is.
  16. Yup, it's right next to the Superman suit.
  17. Step outside for another hit Jim.
  18. The one with the gorilla suit in the closet.
  19. Many thanks. I've wanted to read that piece for 40 years.
  20. First of all, the licensing issue is correct. Part of the license with BMG would stipulate the labeling. All Mosaics will have this marking. Next, EMI manufactures BMG club Blue Notes, Universal manufactures Verves for BMG, Sony manufactures Legacy releases for BMG, etc. Labeling is the only difference in the discs.
  21. I actually think Counce's Landslide and More Bounce (aka Counceltation) are even better. You should get all 4.
  22. I was "imprinted" by a version on one of the early Granz Jam Sessions with Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Eldridge (tp) Johnny Hodges (as) Ben Webster, Illinois Jacquet, Flip Phillips (ts) Lionel Hampton (vib) Oscar Peterson (p) Ray Brown (b) Buddy Rich (d).
  23. Yup, but all that brass is poison.
